The Seiko Prospex SLA069 is a 500-piece limited-edition reinterpretation of Seiko’s 1970 diver’s watch, created to commemorate Japanese adventurer Naomi Uemura. Its defining details are a sculptural, crown-protecting case and a textured dial depicting Mont Blanc. Seiko’s specifications pair the design with automatic/manual-winding Caliber 8L35, approximately 50 hours of power reserve and 200 m diver’s water resistance.
What is the Seiko Prospex SLA069?
Officially named the “1970 Diver’s Modern Re-interpretation The Naomi Uemura Limited Edition,” the SLA069 updates a Seiko diver’s design from 1970. The original watch had a flowing case shape and an asymmetrical extension protecting the crown at four o’clock; those features inform the modern model’s distinctive silhouette. Seiko identifies the SLA069 as a 500-piece limited edition.
The edition commemorates Uemura and his connection to the 1970 diver. In Seiko’s March 2023 announcement, the company says he wore that watch during a solo dog-sled journey from Greenland to Alaska between 1974 and 1976. How the dial tells Uemura’s story
The dial is inspired by Mont Blanc, shown from the angle at which Uemura began his ascent, according to Seiko. Its pressed and etched surface creates depth, with a pattern meant to evoke the mountain’s rocky and snowy terrain. Seiko also says the crown and surface around the bezel suggest the blue shadows around the mountain. Seiko’s special-edition page explains the design.

What to know about launch price and availability
Seiko announced the SLA069 in March 2023 and said it would become available at select retailers from May or June 2023. The announcement gave an approximate US recommended retail price of $2,900 at launch and noted that price information could change. That is historical launch pricing, not a current market quote. Current stock, resale prices and seller listings are not established here.
Seiko’s announcement also says Uemura climbed Mont Blanc, Kilimanjaro, Aconcagua, Everest and Denali within four years. It states that he reached Denali in winter 1984 and disappeared during the descent. These biographical details are presented as Seiko’s account. Who the SLA069 may suit
The model’s 44.0 mm diameter, 49.3 mm lug-to-lug measurement and 185.0 g listed weight give useful context for assessing its size and heft. The 20 mm lug width is also relevant if considering a different strap, though the listed bracelet is supplied with the watch. The textured mountain dial and asymmetrical crown protection make this edition particularly tied to its historical and commemorative design rather than a generic diver aesthetic.
