Is a first gen Pixel Watch still worth it in 2025?

The first-generation Pixel Watch was worth buying in 2025 only as a cheap used or refurbished Android smartwatch. Its compact design and Fitbit integration remained useful, but support ended in October 2025, battery life was limited, and repair risk made newer Pixel Watch models safer purchases.

Is a first gen Pixel Watch still worth it in 2025? Only conditionally: a clean, cheap used or refurbished unit could suit an Android owner who wanted Google and Fitbit features for the short term, but the watch’s guaranteed updates ended in October 2025, its battery was rated for up to 24 hours, and repair options were limited.

Key takeaways

  • Google guaranteed software updates for the first-generation Pixel Watch through at least October 2025, so a 2025 buyer was near the end of the official support window.
  • The original Pixel Watch has a 41 mm case, 2 GB of RAM, 32 GB of storage, GPS, NFC, and a rated battery life of up to 24 hours.
  • The Exynos 9110 platform, aging battery, limited repair options, and daily charging make the first-generation model a weak long-term purchase.
  • The watch remains reasonable as a cheap, short-term Android wearable for notifications, basic fitness tracking, and Fitbit integration.
  • Pixel Watch 2 or Pixel Watch 3 was the better purchase in 2025 whenever the price difference was small enough to absorb.

What is the verdict on whether a first gen Pixel Watch is still worth it in 2025?

A first gen Pixel Watch was worth buying in 2025 only as a cheap used or refurbished Android smartwatch, not as a full-price long-term investment. Its compact design, Google services, Fitbit tracking, and optional LTE remained useful, but its guaranteed support ended in October 2025, its battery was only rated for up to 24 hours, and repair risks made a low purchase price essential.

The decisive question was not whether the watch still worked. A functioning first-generation Pixel Watch could still handle notifications, alarms, music controls, workouts, sleep tracking, and Google ecosystem features. The decisive question was whether the purchase price adequately compensated for an aging battery, older hardware, limited repairability, and the approaching end of Google’s minimum update commitment.

How long was the first-generation Pixel Watch supported?

Google listed the original Pixel Watch as first available in October 2022 and guaranteed software updates through at least October 2025. The guarantee could include security updates, operating-system updates, feature drops, and bug fixes, but it did not promise that every later feature would reach every watch, region, or carrier variant. See Google’s Pixel Watch software-update policy.

#1 Best Overall
Google Pixel Watch 1st Gen (Previous Model) - Android Smartwatch with Fitbit Activity Tracking - Heart Rate Tracking Watch - Matte Black Stainless Steel case with Obsidian Active band - WiFi
  • The Google Pixel Watch has a beautiful circular, domed design and new experience with Wear OS by Google, so it’s easy to get help at a glance[1]
  • Stay on top of activity, calories burned, and more with Fitbit activity tracking[2] Plus, enjoy 6 months of Fitbit Premium included.[15]
  • Track your heart rate and get insight into your sleep[2]; and assess your heart rhythm for AFib with ECG[3]
  • Save time with things like Google Wallet for contactless payments, turn-by-turn directions using Maps, and event notifications from Calendar[5]
  • Stay connected and productive wherever you go; respond to messages, manage your inbox, and make calls right from your wrist[6]

That timing made the first-generation Pixel Watch unusually difficult to recommend late in 2025. A buyer might continue using the watch after October 2025, but the buyer no longer had the same published minimum-support assurance that came with a newer model. Smartwatch support matters because pairing, health synchronization, apps, payments, connectivity, and cloud services all depend on a changing phone and software ecosystem.

For later context, a Google Pixel Watch Community announcement dated June 16, 2026 said that eligible Pixel Watch devices would receive Wear OS 7, with rollout beginning June 16, 2026. That later update shows that support can continue beyond a published minimum, but it is not a renewed long-term guarantee for the original watch and should not be interpreted as proof that every regional or carrier version receives identical features. Read the official June 2026 Pixel Watch update announcement for that later development.

What hardware did the first-generation Pixel Watch offer?

The first-generation Pixel Watch was a compact 41 mm circular smartwatch with a recycled stainless-steel case and a 320 ppi AMOLED display. The display supported an always-on mode and brightness boost up to 1,000 nits. Google’s technical specifications list an Exynos 9110 system-on-chip with a Cortex M33 co-processor, 2 GB of RAM, 32 GB of storage, a 294 mAh battery, built-in GPS, NFC, a microphone, a speaker, a crown, and a side button. Consult Google’s first-generation Pixel Watch specifications.

Feature First-generation Pixel Watch What it meant in 2025
Case size 41 mm Comfortable and discreet, but no larger-case option
Display 320 ppi AMOLED; always-on display; up to 1,000-nit brightness boost Still attractive for a small smartwatch
Processor Exynos 9110 with Cortex M33 co-processor Oldest platform in the Pixel Watch family by 2025
Memory and storage 2 GB RAM and 32 GB storage Generous storage, but limited future performance headroom
Battery 294 mAh; up to 24 hours rated battery life Daily charging was expected, and used batteries could perform worse
Connectivity Bluetooth/Wi-Fi or LTE model LTE required a compatible carrier plan
Health features Activity, heart rate, sleep, exercise, and Fitbit health features; ECG subject to regional and eligibility limits Useful for general tracking, but not the newest sensor package

Google positioned the watch as a combination of Google smartwatch functions and Fitbit health and fitness features. The United States launch prices were $349 for Bluetooth/Wi-Fi and $399 for LTE in October 2022, according to Google’s launch announcement. Those were original launch prices, not a recommendation for what a used watch should cost in 2025.

Was the first-generation Pixel Watch battery good enough?

The first-generation Pixel Watch battery was adequate when new but not a strength in 2025. Google rated the 294 mAh battery for up to 24 hours, while actual results varied with enabled features, environment, usage, and battery condition. Google’s charging figures listed approximately 45 minutes to reach 50%, 75 minutes to reach 80%, and 110 minutes to reach full charge with the original charger.

Google’s launch material also described approximately 50% charge in 30 minutes under its stated test conditions. The difference between that launch estimate and the more detailed specification timing is a reminder that charging results depend on test conditions and should not be treated as a guaranteed everyday result. The technical specification page is the better reference for the detailed figures.

Battery aging was more important for a used first-generation watch than the original laboratory rating. A buyer relying on sleep tracking would need to charge around a daily routine, and an older battery could make that routine more difficult. Daily charging may be acceptable for a low-cost notification watch, but it is less attractive for a primary fitness wearable or anyone who needs dependable multi-day endurance.

How did the first-generation Pixel Watch compare with newer Pixel Watches?

The Pixel Watch 2 was the most direct alternative in 2025. Google lists a Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 platform, a 306 mAh battery, approximately 30 minutes to 50% charge, and guaranteed software updates through at least October 2026. The Pixel Watch 3 added 41 mm and 45 mm sizes and had guaranteed updates through at least October 2027. The same Google specifications page and Google support policy provide the relevant comparison points.

By August 2026, Google described Pixel Watch 4 as the first Pixel Watch with a serviceable design and replaceable battery and display. Google also listed U.S. starting prices of $349 for the 41 mm Wi-Fi model and $449 for the 41 mm LTE model, with higher prices for 45 mm versions. Those are later product details, not 2025 prices, but they underline how much the product family’s repair and battery story changed. See Google’s Pixel Watch 4 announcement.

What were the first-generation Pixel Watch’s advantages?

The original watch still had several genuine strengths in 2025:

  • Compact design: The 41 mm case suited smaller wrists and buyers who preferred a discreet watch.
  • Google integration: Notifications, Google services, phone pairing, and supported Wallet-related use cases formed the core smartwatch experience.
  • Fitbit tracking: The watch supported activity, exercise, heart-rate, sleep, and other health-related tracking through the Fitbit and Google Health ecosystem. Google’s health and activity documentation explains the current tracking relationship.
  • Optional LTE: The cellular model could provide phone-free connectivity where the carrier and plan supported it.
  • Accessory continuity: Existing owners could continue using compatible first-generation bands and the original magnetic charger.

The LTE benefit came with an important condition. Google says full talk, text, and data functionality requires the watch and companion Android device to use the same carrier network. LTE therefore made sense only after verifying the exact carrier, country, plan, and watch model through Google’s Pixel Watch compatibility and region requirements.

Is the first-generation Pixel Watch repairable?

The first-generation Pixel Watch was not a good choice for buyers who require inexpensive repair or a user-replaceable battery. Google’s warranty process discusses warranty replacement, possible refunds or replacements at Google’s discretion, and the possibility of a discounted replacement for some out-of-warranty owners; it does not describe a normal user-replaceable battery, display, or component-repair program for the original watch. See Google’s Pixel Watch warranty and replacement guidance.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Google’s current self-repair documentation lists Pixel phones, Pixel Tablet, Pixel Watch 4, and Pixel Buds among supported devices, but not the first-generation Pixel Watch. Treat screen damage, a failed crown, serious battery deterioration, water-resistance loss, or other physical damage as potentially uneconomic to repair. Do not assume that a battery or display replacement is available simply because a third-party listing describes the watch as repairable. Google specifically identifies Pixel Watch 4 as the first Pixel Watch with a serviceable design in its self-repair documentation.

Water resistance also should not be confused with waterproofing. Google describes water and dust resistance as non-permanent and subject to loss from wear, damage, repair, or disassembly. A used watch with a cracked screen or unknown repair history should not be treated as equally protected as a clean, undamaged unit.

What should you check before buying a used first-generation Pixel Watch?

A used first-generation Pixel Watch is only a good deal when the watch’s condition, included accessories, connectivity, and return protection are clear. A return window matters because battery behavior and LTE activation cannot always be confirmed from a seller’s photographs or description.

  1. Confirm the model: Check whether the listing is Bluetooth/Wi-Fi or LTE and verify that the model is compatible with your phone, country, and carrier.
  2. Check the phone requirement: The first-generation watch works with most Android 8.0-or-newer phones, requires a Google Account and the Pixel Watch app, and does not provide an iPhone-compatible Apple Watch alternative.
  3. Inspect the display: Look for cracks, deep scratches, dead areas, touch problems, and signs of separation around the case.
  4. Test the controls: Confirm that the crown rotates and presses correctly and that the side button responds consistently.
  5. Test charging: Make sure the watch reaches and holds a charge with the correct first-generation magnetic charging cable.
  6. Observe battery drain: Test normal use rather than relying only on the seller’s claim about battery health.
  7. Test core functions: Pair the watch, check notifications, GPS, speaker, microphone, heart-rate tracking, sleep tracking, and music controls.
  8. Test LTE separately: If the watch is cellular, verify that LTE activation works with the intended carrier before the return period expires.
  9. Check accessories: A missing charger reduces the value and can turn a seemingly cheap watch into a more expensive purchase. Buyers replacing worn straps should confirm that a replacement band is specifically compatible with the first-generation 41 mm watch.
  10. Prefer a protected purchase: Choose a seller offering a meaningful return period and clearly describing condition, connectivity version, charger inclusion, and any warranty.

If the listing lacks the original charger, compare the total cost before buying. Google identifies a distinct first-generation USB-C magnetic charging cable in its technical specifications. A compatible Google Pixel Watch charger can be a practical addition, but accessory availability and seller quality should be checked separately rather than assumed.

Does Fitbit Premium change the value of the original Pixel Watch?

Fitbit Premium should not be counted as a guaranteed part of a used first-generation Pixel Watch purchase. The original launch bundle included six months of Fitbit Premium, but a secondhand watch may already have had the offer activated or may not qualify for it.

Google’s current health documentation says the six-month Premium trial is for new and returning Premium members, must be activated within 60 days of device activation, requires valid payment information, and may create recurring charges if it is not canceled. The offer can also depend on market and eligibility terms. Read the current Google Health and Pixel Watch trial guidance rather than relying on launch-era packaging.

Google announced that, beginning May 19, 2026, the Fitbit app would transition to the Google Health app for most users and Fitbit Premium would become Google Health Premium in supported countries. App names, subscription features, and eligibility can change, so evaluate the watch’s hardware and core tracking separately from premium coaching content. Google’s Google Health app announcement describes that later transition.

Who should buy the first-generation Pixel Watch?

The first-generation Pixel Watch was defensible for a narrow group of buyers in 2025:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Android or Pixel owners who found a clean, fully functional unit at a very low price.
  • People who wanted a small watch for notifications, alarms, music controls, basic activity tracking, and occasional workouts.
  • Existing owners who already had compatible bands or a first-generation charger.
  • Buyers comfortable treating the watch as a short-term device rather than a four- or five-year investment.
  • Someone replacing a damaged first-generation unit and able to reuse accessories.

For these buyers, the watch could deliver the essential Google-and-Fitbit experience without requiring a newer model. The purchase still needed to be cheap enough that an early battery or hardware failure would be acceptable.

Who should skip the first-generation Pixel Watch?

Skip the original Pixel Watch if you need several more years of guaranteed updates, dislike daily charging, require dependable multi-day battery life, want the newest sensors or GPS improvements, need a repairable device, or are paying close to newer-model pricing.

Rank #4
Google Pixel Watch (1st Gen) GPS + Cellular LTE Smartwatch 41mm Black No Band OEM (Renewed)

  • Circular AMOLED display with Gorilla Glass protection
  • Track workouts, heart rate, ECG, sleep patterns, and more
  • Access Google Assistant, Maps, Wallet, and Play Store apps
  • Make calls, send texts, and stream without your phone

The first-generation watch was also a poor fit for iPhone users, buyers who need a large display, and anyone who wants a choice of case sizes. The original model was offered in a single 41 mm size. LTE buyers should also skip any listing with unclear carrier compatibility, because a cellular radio alone does not guarantee that the watch can be activated on the intended network.

How should you decide what to pay?

There was no universal fair price in 2025 because used-watch value depended heavily on battery condition, charger inclusion, LTE status, cosmetic damage, seller protection, and the price of newer refurbished models. Use a strict condition-and-risk rule instead of comparing only the headline listing price.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
Deal category Required conditions Decision
Good deal Clean unit; correct carrier or unlocked status; charger included; strong battery behavior; tested return option Reasonable for short-term or secondary use
Marginal deal Uncertain battery health, missing charger, unclear LTE status, or no return protection Buy only if the price is low enough to cover likely replacement costs
Bad deal Damaged glass, unexplained battery drain, no charger, no return policy, or pricing close to a Pixel Watch 2 or Pixel Watch 3 sale Skip it

When comparing listings, consider a first-generation Pixel Watch replacement band only if you need to replace a worn strap, and verify that the band is made for the original 41 mm design rather than a band intended only for a later model. A band is a sensible accessory purchase; it does not solve the original watch’s battery, support, or repair limitations.

What is the best alternative to the first-generation Pixel Watch in 2025?

The Pixel Watch 2 was the best direct alternative when its discounted or refurbished price was close to the original model’s used price. It offered a newer Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 platform, a larger 306 mAh battery, faster stated charging, and guaranteed support through at least October 2026.

The Pixel Watch 3 was the stronger choice for buyers planning to keep the watch beyond 2025 because its support guarantee extended through at least October 2027 and it offered both 41 mm and 45 mm case sizes. The first-generation model was still acceptable only when the price gap was substantial and the buyer explicitly accepted shorter support and greater hardware risk.

Pixel Watch 4 is a later-generation comparison rather than a like-for-like 2025 recommendation. Google describes Pixel Watch 4 as having a Snapdragon W5 Gen 2 platform, a serviceable design, a replaceable battery and display, and a rated battery life of up to 30 hours for 41 mm or 40 hours for 45 mm. Those improvements make the first-generation model even harder to justify at anything near new-device pricing. See Google’s Pixel Watch 4 product announcement.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Can an existing owner keep using the first-generation Pixel Watch?

Yes. Someone who already owned a working first-generation Pixel Watch could reasonably continue using it through 2025, especially if the watch paired reliably, held enough charge for the owner’s routine, and had no physical damage. Replacing a working watch solely because a newer generation existed was not necessary for every user.

Existing owners should nevertheless plan for battery degradation, limited repair options, and the end of Google’s minimum guaranteed-support commitment in October 2025. Owners who depend on sleep tracking, LTE, payments, or daily fitness data should test those functions regularly and keep a replacement plan rather than waiting for a failure that may be uneconomic to repair.

Best Value
Google Pixel Watch 2 (Previous Model) with the Best of Fitbit - Heart Rate Tracking, Stress Management, Safety Features - Android Smartwatch - Polished Silver Aluminum Case - Bay Active Band - Wi-Fi
  • The Pixel Watch 2 comes with three new advanced sensors for heart rate tracking, skin temperature, and stress management[1,2]; 100% recycled light aluminum housing makes it comfortable to wear[3]
  • The all-new heart rate sensor and Google AI combine for Fitbit’s most spot-on heart rate tracking yet[4], so you can get more precise health and fitness info[5]
  • Go even longer with the enhanced 24-hour battery and always-on display[6,7]; charge for 75 minutes to get a full day of battery life[8]
  • Identify potential signs of stress with Fitbit’s body-response feature, so you can manage it in the moment[5]; and track variations in your skin temperature, blood oxygen levels, and sleep to help you spot possible changes[5,9,10]
  • Get help with Emergency SOS and Fall Detection if you’re feeling unsafe or if you’ve had a hard fall[11,12]; and Safety Check alerts your close contacts if you don’t respond to a set check-in timer[13]

Final verdict: In 2025, buy the first gen Pixel Watch only as a cheap, short-term or secondary Android smartwatch. Do not make it the default Pixel Watch recommendation. If a Pixel Watch 2 or Pixel Watch 3 cost only slightly more, the newer model was the better purchase because it offered newer hardware and more remaining guaranteed support.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the first-generation Pixel Watch worth buying in 2025?

A first gen Pixel Watch was worth buying in 2025 only when it was substantially cheaper than a Pixel Watch 2 or Pixel Watch 3 and the buyer accepted daily charging, an aging battery, limited repair options, and support ending in October 2025. It was not a good full-price or long-term purchase.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

How long will the first-generation Pixel Watch receive updates?

The first-generation Pixel Watch was guaranteed software updates through at least October 2025. Google’s policy could include security updates, operating-system updates, feature drops, and bug fixes, but did not promise every later feature for every version or region.

Does the first-generation Pixel Watch work with Android and iPhone?

The first-generation Pixel Watch works with most Android 8.0-or-newer phones, requires a Google Account and the Pixel Watch app, and is not an iPhone-compatible alternative to Apple Watch. LTE functionality also requires compatible carrier support.

How long does the first-generation Pixel Watch battery last?

The first-generation Pixel Watch was rated for up to 24 hours of battery life, but actual results varied with features, usage, environment, and battery condition. A used unit may last less because lithium-ion batteries age.

What is the best alternative to the first-generation Pixel Watch?

The Pixel Watch 2 was the most direct 2025 upgrade, while the Pixel Watch 3 was better for buyers wanting longer guaranteed support and a 45 mm size option. Either was preferable when the price difference from a first-generation used watch was small.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The Bottom Line

Bottom line: The first-generation Pixel Watch was a conditional 2025 bargain, not a broadly recommended smartwatch. Buy only a clean, tested, returnable unit at a price low enough to make battery failure or replacement acceptable. Otherwise, choose a Pixel Watch 2 or Pixel Watch 3 with the longer support runway.
