Garmin’s Index S2 makes the most sense if you already use Garmin Connect and want scale readings alongside your Garmin health and fitness data. Garmin documents Wi-Fi syncing, weight trends and profiles for up to 16 users. That is a useful ecosystem fit—not evidence that the Index S2 is the best smart scale for everyone.
What the Index S2 measures
The Index S2 records weight and displays BMI, body-fat percentage, skeletal muscle mass, bone mass and body-water percentage. Garmin says it calculates body-composition values using bioelectrical impedance, so treat them as estimates for tracking trends rather than medical or clinical measurements. Garmin also notes that results can differ from readings taken with other scales or tests (Garmin Customer Support).
You can turn off body-composition fields and configure the display to show weight only. That may suit users who want a simpler weigh-in or prefer not to follow estimated composition metrics.
Why Garmin Connect users may find it worthwhile
The main reason to choose the S2 is its connection to Garmin Connect. Garmin documents Wi-Fi syncing and trend graphs, letting you bring scale readings into the same app as other Garmin data. The 30-day on-scale weight trend graph was described in Garmin’s October 14, 2020 launch announcement; check Garmin’s current product information for the features currently listed (Garmin Index S2 product page; Garmin launch announcement).
#1 Best Overall
- Get accurate measurements for weight, weight trend, body fat percentage, bmi, skeletal muscle mass and more
- Sync with your garmin connect account via wi-fi connectivity to see your data, get trend graphs and more (requires the garmin connect app downloaded to a compatible smartphone)
- Sleek design features a high-resolution color display
- Up to 16 user profiles allow multiple daily weigh-ins and unique goal tracking for each user
- Battery life: up to 9 months; uses 4 aaa batteries (included)
If you do not use Garmin Connect, this particular advantage matters less. The available product information does not establish that the Index S2 outperforms competing scales on accuracy, price or compatibility, so the case for it is strongest when Garmin integration is a priority.
Setup, users and practical specifications
Connected features require setup through the Garmin Connect app and a compatible Wi-Fi router. Garmin specifies 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. Its product information lists support for up to 16 user profiles, four included AAA batteries and battery life of up to nine months. These are manufacturer specifications, not independently tested results (Garmin Index S2 product page; Garmin owner’s manual).

Safety and measurement limits
Garmin warns that people with pacemakers or other internal electronic devices should not use the scale. Follow that warning rather than relying on the scale’s ability to hide body-composition results. Because composition readings are impedance-based estimates and can differ from other measurement methods, do not use them as a substitute for medical advice.
