Not just because your Omega Speedmaster Reduced is old or discontinued. If it is keeping time acceptably and its chronograph works properly, replacing it is a matter of preference. If it has symptoms or an unknown service history, get a qualified inspection and written estimate before choosing between repair and replacement.
Is the Speedmaster Reduced discontinued?
Yes. Omega lists reference 3510.50.00 as discontinued. That status does not mean an individual watch has reached an age at which it must be replaced. The available sources establish no universal replacement age or official current service interval for this model.
When new, Omega specified the 3510.50.00 with a 39 mm stainless-steel case, black dial, reinforced plastic crystal, automatic caliber 3220, 40-hour power reserve and 3 bar (30 m) water resistance. Those are original specifications, not a guarantee about the condition of a particular decades-old watch. Omega’s product page
Should you service or replace your Speedmaster Reduced?
Start with how the watch behaves, not its age. If it keeps time acceptably, starts and stops its chronograph, and resets correctly—with no known impact or moisture damage—replacement is optional. For erratic timekeeping, stopping, chronograph faults, unusual rotor or winding noise, damaged controls, or a service history you cannot establish, ask for an inspection before deciding.

Why the caliber 3220 needs a specific assessment
The Reduced is mechanically different from the manual-wind Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch. Hodinkee reports that the automatic caliber 3220 is ETA-based and combines a base movement with a Dubois-Dépraz chronograph module. Fratello describes it as based on the no-date ETA 2890-A2 with a Dubois-Dépraz 2020 module mounted on the dial side. Fratello notes that the module can make servicing more involved and potentially more expensive than servicing the Moonwatch’s hand-wound movement; that is a reason to request an itemized estimate, not evidence that your watch cannot be repaired economically. A practical decision sequence
- Write down the symptoms. Note timekeeping changes, stopping, chronograph start/stop/reset behavior, unusual winding or rotor noise, visible impact or moisture, and the condition of the crown and pushers.
- Gather the records. Confirm the reference and movement where possible, and collect service paperwork. Older watches may have been repaired or had parts changed.
- Request a written assessment. Contact an Omega service channel or a watchmaker experienced with caliber 3220 and its chronograph module. Ask for the diagnosis, work proposed, parts required, cost and any warranty terms.
- Compare the estimate with what you want next. Consider the repair cost alongside the price and fit of a replacement, the watch’s sentimental value and originality, your preference for its size and automatic winding, and your tolerance for future servicing.
- Check water resistance professionally if it matters. The original 3 bar specification is not proof that an older watch remains water resistant.
Neither the available sources nor the watch’s discontinued status establish that Omega will service every example, that parts are available for every production year, or that repair is always cheaper than replacement. Confirm service and parts availability for your specific watch with the provider before committing.

What should you compare if you want a different Speedmaster?
First decide what you want to preserve: the Reduced’s smaller-wrist feel, automatic winding, chronograph layout, or simply its look. The Moonwatch Professional is larger and manually wound, so it is not a like-for-like mechanical substitute. Fratello describes the Reduced as approximately 38.5 mm with a 44.5 mm lug-to-lug measurement; Omega rounds its official case diameter to 39 mm.
Current Speedmaster 38
Fratello’s article on the refreshed Speedmaster 38 range describes black-dial reference 324.30.38.50.01.002 as a visual alternative for someone drawn to the Reduced. The range measures 38 mm in diameter, 14.75 mm thick and 44.96 mm lug-to-lug, with a reported 52-hour power reserve. The black no-date version uses caliber 3332; the other six refreshed models use caliber 3330 and have date displays. These are different watches and movements, so compare thickness, wrist fit, winding and chronograph architecture, dial layout, price and service support in person. Fratello’s Speedmaster 38 overview
