No. Seiko is not owned by Rolex. Seiko Watch Corporation is listed as part of Seiko Group, while Rolex said in its 2023 Sustainability Report that it is owned by the Hans Wilsdorf Foundation. The official sources establish separate ownership structures, not a hidden acquisition.

Seiko’s corporate profile describes Seiko Watch Corporation as planning, developing, manufacturing, and selling watches and other products, and identifies Seiko Group Corporation in its corporate information. Seiko Watch Corporation profile Together, those descriptions place the watch business within the Seiko group—not under Rolex.

Rolex’s report says the foundation ownership arrangement allows the company to “continue to develop independently.” Its current About page describes Rolex as “an integrated and independent Swiss watch manufacture.” Rolex About page The ownership statement here is attributed to the dated 2023 report; the About page is Rolex’s current self-description.

Why the names can cause confusion

“Seiko” can refer to the watch brand or, more broadly, to the Seiko corporate group. The relevant watch business is Seiko Watch Corporation, which the wider Seiko Group lists among its affiliated companies. Rolex, by contrast, describes its ownership through the Hans Wilsdorf Foundation. These are different corporate structures, and the sources provide no basis for saying either company owns the other.

Does “connection” mean anything beyond ownership?

The ownership answer does not establish that no commercial, supplier, or personnel connection has ever existed between companies or individuals. The cited official descriptions address corporate placement and ownership; they do not amount to a complete investigation of every possible business relationship. If “connection” refers to a particular watch model, supplier, person, or arrangement, that specific claim needs its own evidence.

Separate histories, not evidence of shared ownership

Seiko’s official heritage account traces its beginnings to 1881, when Kintaro Hattori established a watch and clock retail and repair business in Tokyo, and says he established Seikosha in 1892 to produce wall clocks. Seiko heritage Those dates provide context for Seiko’s history; they do not indicate a relationship with Rolex.
