Yes—with an important qualification. Casio describes the 2019 G-Shock Dream Project G-D5000-9JR as an 18K-gold watch, with its case, band, buttons and screws made in 18K gold. Its original price was $70,000. That figure is the May 2019 sale price, not a verified current resale value.
What “solid 18K gold” means for this G-SHOCK
Casio’s G-SHOCK editorial describes the G-D5000-9JR as an entirely 18K-gold timepiece and says the case, band, buttons and even screws could be produced in 18K gold. That supports describing those exterior components as 18K gold; it does not mean every internal component is gold.
There is a wording difference in Casio’s own material: its corporate investor briefing calls the watch “Pure gold-plated (18K),” while the product-history and G-SHOCK editorial describe the gold construction at the component level. The most precise account is therefore that Casio identified the case, band, buttons and screws as 18K gold, rather than implying the entire watch, including its movement and internal structure, is solid gold. Casio’s G-SHOCK editorial and its 2019 investor briefing use those respective descriptions.
What did it cost, and how many were made?
| Detail | Casio’s reported figure |
|---|---|
| Original US price | $70,000 for the May 2019 sale, according to Casio’s product-history page. |
| Japan price | ¥7.7 million excluding tax, according to Casio’s 2019 investor-relations briefing. |
| Release quantity | 35 pieces worldwide, as reported in Casio product-history and corporate material. |
| US allocation | Two pieces, according to Casio’s product-history page. |
| Original release status | Casio’s investor briefing said the release was fully reserved; its Singapore editorial said it sold out immediately. |
The price and availability claims refer to the original 2019 release. They do not establish what the watch might sell for now or whether one is currently available. Any resale asking price would be a separate market listing, not Casio’s original price.

How did Casio address gold’s weight and shock resistance?
Casio says gold weighs 150% as much as stainless steel, presenting the material’s weight as an engineering challenge for a watch designed around G-SHOCK shock resistance. Its stated solution was a new shell construction: the inner body sits within an outer case, with fine-resin cushioning intended to absorb impacts from all directions. Casio also describes detailed gold processing to make the exterior components in 18K gold. These are Casio’s design descriptions, not independent test results. Read Casio’s account of the construction.
Is it the same watch as the MRG-D5000?
No. G-D5000-9JR is the 2019 Dream Project gold edition discussed here. Casio’s product-history page places it in the history of the MRG-D5000 line, but that does not make it the same model as the newer MRG-D5000. The latter is a distinct sapphire-and-titanium watch; the G-D5000-9JR is the limited 18K-gold release.

Why is it called a Dream Project?
Casio presented the G-D5000 as the first Dream Project: a deliberately exceptional interpretation of the G-SHOCK, joining the brand’s toughness concept with precious-metal construction. G-SHOCK creator Kikuo Ibe described it as “a creation that truly ventures into the realm of dreams in its fusion of the G-SHOCK, with its continuous pursuit of toughness, and — at the other end of the spectrum — gold, a material of utmost elegance.” Casio’s editorial includes Ibe’s statement.
