The Seiko Prospex Samurai SRPB51 is a substantial automatic diver with a 43.8 mm stainless-steel case, Hardlex crystal and a stated 200 m/660 ft diver’s water-resistance rating. Seiko specifies its 4R35 movement with manual winding and an approximately 41-hour power reserve. Reviewer David Lin’s nine-month account adds useful—but single-watch—observations on accuracy, comfort, lume, bezel feel and bracelet construction.
What Seiko specifies for the SRPB51
The figures below come from Seiko’s SRPB51 product page, not from a reviewer’s measurements. Seiko lists:
- Movement: Caliber 4R35, automatic with manual winding, 23 jewels, stop-seconds function and date display.
- Power reserve: Approximately 41 hours.
- Case: Stainless steel, 43.8 mm in diameter and 13.4 mm thick.
- Crystal: Hardlex.
- Water resistance: 200 m/660 ft, described by Seiko as diver’s water resistance.
- Other features: Unidirectional rotating bezel, screw-down crown, screw caseback, and LumiBrite on the hands and indices.
- Bracelet details: Three-fold clasp with secure lock, push-button release and extender; 22 mm lug spacing.
Seiko does not list an accuracy tolerance or lug-to-lug measurement on this model page. Its 200 m/660 ft rating is the published specification; it should not be expanded into a claim about a particular certification. See Seiko’s SRPB51 specifications.
How accurate is the 4R35 in the SRPB51?
Seiko’s SRPB51 specification page does not publish an accuracy tolerance. In his review, David Lin says the individual SRPB51 he wore and tested over nine months averaged +11 seconds per day. That is one reviewer’s reported result, not a guarantee for every SRPB51 or an official Seiko performance figure.

Lin also reports about 40 hours in his power-reserve test, compared with Seiko’s approximately 41-hour specification. His test result should likewise be treated as a finding for his watch, not a replacement for the manufacturer’s figure. The review describes timing checks and power-reserve testing, but those results have not been independently reproduced here. Read Lin’s review and account of his testing.
What it is like to wear: one reviewer’s account
At 43.8 mm across and 13.4 mm thick, the SRPB51 is not a small watch on paper. Lin says its case wears flatter than a Seiko Turtle, and he praises the lume. These are personal impressions from his review, not measurements or manufacturer claims. Seiko lists LumiBrite on the hands and indices but does not provide a quantified brightness or duration figure on the product page.

- STAINLESS STEEL CASE built to endure with style, making this watch your perfect daily companion
- AUTOMATIC MOVEMENT for seamless precision in every tick of this watch
- SCRATCH-RESISTANT CRYSTAL to maintain a pristine look even with daily wear and tear on your watch
- LUMINESCENT HANDS for effortless readability in low-light conditions, ensuring you never miss a moment with this watch
- WATER RESISTANT DESIGN ensuring your watch is ready for any adventure, rain or shine
Seiko does not publish the SRPB51’s lug-to-lug length, so diameter alone cannot establish how its ends will sit on a particular wrist. If your wrist is small or you are sensitive to overhang, try the exact watch on where possible; otherwise, look for a verified lug-to-lug measurement for this reference before deciding. Lin’s fit comments are useful context, but cannot predict fit for every wearer.
Bezel and bracelet: strengths and reservations
Seiko specifies a unidirectional rotating bezel and a bracelet clasp with a secure lock, push-button release and extender. Lin prefers the feel of the Turtle’s bezel to the SRPB51’s. He also criticizes the SRPB51 bracelet and describes its end links as hollow; that specific construction detail is his account, not confirmed by Seiko’s specification page.

The distinction matters if bracelet feel is a deciding factor: the official page establishes the clasp features, while the reviewer’s comments describe his own experience with the watch. The 22 mm lug spacing gives you a measurement to check when considering a strap, but does not by itself prove that any particular aftermarket strap or bracelet will fit.
Hardlex and the crystal trade-off
Hardlex is the crystal material Seiko lists for this reference. Lin criticizes it in his review. That criticism is a subjective assessment, not evidence of a test result or a model-wide defect. If crystal material is a priority, check that a listing is specifically for the SRPB51 rather than assuming that a similarly named Seiko diver uses the same crystal.

Make sure the listing is for SRPB51
Several Seiko references have similar names or styling but are different watches. Seiko’s separate pages identify the SRPE51 as a 40 mm Seiko 5 Sports model, the SRPL51 as a later Prospex diver with a 41.7 mm case, and the SPB051 as a distinct reference with a 6R15 movement and sapphire crystal. Those details do not describe the SRPB51.
When buying, verify the reference printed in the listing and confirm the condition, included bracelet or strap, seller, return terms and local availability. A Seiko Kuwait listing repeats key SRPB51 specifications, but its displayed 150 KD price and out-of-stock status are regional listing details, not a general or necessarily current market price. Should you choose the SRPB51?
The SRPB51 is worth considering if you want a sizable automatic diver with a date, manual winding, a screw-down crown, a unidirectional bezel and Seiko’s stated 200 m/660 ft diver’s water resistance. Its published dimensions and Hardlex crystal are important practical details, while the reported +11 seconds per day, flatter-wearing impression, lume praise and bracelet reservations belong to one reviewer’s experience.
Before buying, compare the actual fit and bracelet feel against your preferences, and verify the exact SRPB51 reference and current local terms. A definitive Samurai-versus-Turtle recommendation would require matching model-specific specifications and prices for the alternatives in your market; the reviewer’s bezel preference alone does not establish a universal winner.
