The Longines Heritage Chronograph 1940, identified in a specialist review as reference L2.814.4.76.0, is absent from Longines’ Heritage collection listing reviewed on 7 October 2026. That suggests it is not a currently listed model, but the available official information does not confirm a formal discontinuation date or explicitly say this exact watch has been discontinued.
Is the Longines Heritage Chronograph 1940 discontinued?
Longines’ current Heritage collection page lists families including the Legend Diver, Ultra-Chron, Pilot Majetek, Conquest Heritage, Flagship Heritage, Avigation and Heritage Classic, but not the exact name “Heritage Chronograph 1940” (Longines Heritage collection, reviewed 7 October 2026). The careful conclusion is that the model is absent from the current collection listing. The available official source does not state when production ended—or explicitly confirm that this reference was discontinued.

Search-result and marketplace wording such as “seems to have been discontinued” is not an official Longines announcement. Nor does a model’s absence from a collection page establish whether any retailer or private seller currently has one for sale.

Don’t confuse it with the Heritage Classic Chronograph 1946
The similar names can lead to a mix-up. Longines’ official Media Center announced the Heritage Classic Chronograph 1946 on 7 January 2020 and described that separate model as a 40 mm reinterpretation of a watch from the forties (Longines Media Center release). Those details apply to the 1946 model, not reference L2.814.4.76.0.

How to check a pre-owned example
A reference number and dealer description can help identify what is being offered, but neither is proof that the watch or its components are authentic. Longines offers owner services tied to a watch’s serial number and directs owners to professional support rather than opening the case themselves.

- Confirm the identity. Compare the listing’s stated reference with L2.814.4.76.0 and request clear photographs of the watch, paperwork and identifying marks. Treat the reported dimensions above as a cross-check, not as an official specification.
- Ask about condition and service history. Request documentation for prior servicing and any replacement components. A seller’s listing alone does not establish provenance or authenticity.
- Use Longines’ owner services where appropriate. Longines says it has preserved historical information associated with each timepiece’s serial number since 1867. For a watch more than 10 years old, an archive extract may be requested; Longines cautions that the extract does not certify the watch or its components as authentic. The company also offers a certificate of authenticity after a Longines watchmaker authenticates the timepiece (Longines care and service information).
- Allow for service lead times. Longines currently estimates four to five weeks plus shipping for an archive extract and three months plus shipping for an authenticity certificate. These service estimates can change; check the company’s current information before ordering.
- Do not open the case yourself. If information requires opening the watch, Longines recommends using a professional watchmaker. Its care page also provides a manual search based on reference and calibre and directs owners to authorized service centers.
What is not established about availability
The sources here do not establish current stock, a live listing for reference L2.814.4.76.0, an original production total or a model-specific market statistic. Check the reference and condition directly with any seller, and assess authenticity, service records and return terms before buying.
