What the Sternglas Zirkel is
Sternglas describes the Zirkel as “der Minimalist unter den Minimalisten,” or “the minimalist among minimalists.” That is the brand’s characterization, not an objective ranking. Its 2020 model announcement presents a restrained layout: a white dial, black hands and a date display at six, which Sternglas says emphasizes symmetry. The watch is automatic, and the brand identifies its movement as the Miyota 9015.
Those details come from Sternglas’s 30 April 2020 Zirkel announcement. It gives the case thickness as 10 mm and describes the crystal as scratch-resistant sapphire. It does not state the case diameter or lug width, so those dimensions cannot be confirmed from that model-specific source.

The available Zirkel announcement does not provide a case diameter, lug width, water-resistance rating, power reserve or accuracy figure. Those specifications should not be inferred from another Sternglas model. Nor does the cited material include an independent performance test.

What “German Bauhaus watchmaking” means here
The Bauhaus connection is a design description: Sternglas says the Zirkel follows the Bauhaus tradition. The evidence also supports saying that the brand conducts design and product development in Hamburg. It does not support calling the entire watch German-made.
Sternglas’s current process page says assembly is carried out by its manufacturing partner in Dongguan, and that movement sourcing varies by model, with movements from Japan or Switzerland. This is general information about the brand’s process; it does not establish the origin of every component in this specific Zirkel. The careful description is therefore a Bauhaus-influenced watch designed in Hamburg, with assembly by the brand’s Dongguan partner—not wholly German manufacture. The Red Dot award and the historical price
Sternglas announced on 30 April 2020 that the Zirkel had won the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2020. The award is a design distinction, not evidence of a particular accuracy, durability or timekeeping result. The same brand announcement quoted a price of €499 at that time; it is a historical figure, not a verified current price.
The announcement also reported more than 6,500 international submissions to the 2020 competition, an 18% increase over 2019, and more than 1,600 award winners. These are figures reported by Sternglas about that year’s competition, not measurements of the Zirkel. The current Sternglas homepage and catalog do not establish the Zirkel’s current stock status or price.

Is the Sternglas Zirkel worth considering?
The Zirkel is most straightforward to assess as a design-led automatic: its documented appeal is the slim stated case thickness, clean black-and-white dial, centered date placement and Bauhaus influence. The Miyota 9015 is the movement Sternglas names, but the available model source does not supply performance figures that would support a deeper reliability or accuracy judgment.
Before buying, verify the exact listing and ask the seller to confirm current availability, case diameter, lug width, water resistance, service history if pre-owned, and what is included. The published 2020 €499 price is not a dependable basis for judging today’s offer, and the consulted current Sternglas catalog does not confirm whether the model remains for sale.
