Tudor has released a conspicuous run of watches tied to football, Formula 1, sailing and cycling. That makes the question fair: are the partnerships building visibility, or making “special” feel routine? The releases raise a credible risk of diminishing distinctiveness, but the available evidence does not show that buyers are tired of them. Tudor’s standard collections remain broad, and its 2025 Watches and Wonders lineup was described as restrained.
What prompted the question
In May 2024, Fratello’s Lex Stolk asked whether Tudor was “forcing its hand with too many limited and special editions.” The article pointed to several sports-linked watches released in a short period: a Black Bay 58 associated with Inter Milan’s 2023/24 Serie A championship, two Pelagos FXD Alinghi Red Bull Racing models, a Pelagos FXD Chrono Cycling Edition, and a pink Black Bay Chrono connected to Inter Miami through club co-owner and Tudor ambassador David Beckham. It also cited black ceramic watches made for Visa Cash App RB drivers at the Miami Grand Prix. Fratello’s May 2024 commentary captured the concern, but it was commentary rather than a study of customer opinion.
These releases are not all the same kind of edition
“Special edition” can describe very different things. A numbered production run, a partnership model and a one-event watch do not imply the same degree of scarcity or the same purpose.
| Example | What the cited sources establish |
|---|---|
| Inter Milan Black Bay 58 | Fratello reported a 1,908-piece limited run. Tudor announced it on May 18, 2024. Tudor’s announcement |
| Miami Grand Prix driver watches | Tudor described the black ceramic watches as unique and made for that race weekend in its April 30, 2024 announcement. Tudor’s announcement |
| Black Bay Chrono Pink | Tudor introduced the model in March 2024; Fratello linked it to Inter Miami and Beckham. Tudor’s announcement |
| Pelagos FXD Chrono Pink | Tudor described this 2025 model as a 300-piece limited edition honoring the Giro d’Italia. Tudor’s announcement |
These examples support the impression of frequent sports tie-ins, but they should not be counted as interchangeable evidence of a single limited-edition strategy. In particular, an event-specific unique watch is not a numbered retail run.

Why the strategy could wear thin
Sports partnerships can put Tudor in front of audiences beyond watch enthusiasts. Fratello cited a cumulative Formula 1 television audience of 1.55 billion for 2022; that figure illustrates the potential scale of the exposure argument, not sales generated by Tudor watches or a measured increase in brand preference. Fratello reported the figure.
The risk is that repeated tie-ins make the word “special” feel like a marketing label rather than a meaningful distinction. If a watch’s main point of difference is its association with a team, event or athlete—and another themed release quickly follows—scarcity and significance may become harder for collectors to read. That is a reasonable interpretation of the release pattern, not a demonstrated finding about Tudor buyers.

Why the editions do not define Tudor’s whole catalog
Tudor’s official press room lists collections including Black Bay, Pelagos, Royal, Monarch, Ranger and 1926, alongside other catalog material. That breadth shows the public offering extends beyond partnership watches; it does not establish how many watches Tudor makes or sells in each category. Tudor’s press room
There is also a counterexample to the idea that every launch is a special edition. Wallpaper’s April 13, 2025 coverage described that year’s Watches and Wonders releases as “studied restraint,” covering updates to the Black Bay 58 and Chrono, the Black Bay 68, Black Bay Pro and Pelagos Ultra. That is one publication’s characterization of one launch year, not a long-term count of Tudor releases. Wallpaper’s 2025 coverage

Tudor itself positions the Black Bay line as drawing on its dive-watch past: its official 2024 product material says, “The Black Bay line features dials inspired by the TUDOR divers’ watches produced during the 1950s.” That is the brand’s description of its design lineage, rather than an independent judgment about originality. Rather than treating every themed watch as proof of overreach, consider four questions:
Rank #4
- Tudor Black Bay 54 Automatic Chronometer Black Dial Men's Watch M79000N-0001
- Audience reach: Does the partnership introduce the watch to people who would not otherwise follow Tudor?
- Distinctiveness: Does the watch have a design or historical rationale beyond the partner’s logo, colors or name?
- Scarcity and cadence: Is it a genuinely limited production, a one-event piece or a recurring variation? How quickly do similar releases follow?
- Catalog balance: Are standard models and new collection developments still receiving attention?
The cited sources do not quantify these outcomes, so the questions are a way to assess the strategy, not a basis for declaring that it has succeeded or failed.
What the evidence can—and cannot—answer
The case for concern rests on a cluster of visible sports-related releases, especially those highlighted in 2024. Tudor’s own announcements can establish how it described particular watches and when it introduced them; its catalog can show the breadth of its public lineup. Neither tells us whether customers are fatigued, how many units sold, or whether partnerships improved Tudor’s commercial results. The available evidence therefore supports a qualified conclusion: frequent themed releases could make limited editions feel routine if the formula repeats, but buyer fatigue has not been established.
