Is Withings BeamO Worth It? The 4-in-1 Health Monitor Explained

Withings BeamO combines temperature, single-lead ECG, digital stethoscope, and region-dependent SpO2 features. Here is what U.S. buyers actually get and whether the $249.95 price makes sense.

Short answer: Withings BeamO is worth considering if you want one handheld device for temperature checks, spot ECG recordings, and digitally captured heart and lung sounds that can be organized and shared through an app. It is especially practical for families, caregivers, and telehealth appointments.

There is an important U.S. qualification, however: the product is marketed as a 4-in-1 health tool, but Withings’ regional feature table says U.S. BeamO units currently offer FDA-cleared ECG, temperature, and stethoscope functions while blood-oxygen monitoring and AFib detection remain pending FDA approval. If SpO2 is your main reason for buying, BeamO is not currently a complete U.S. solution.

Withings BeamO: the buying decision in one minute

At the U.S. listed price of $249.95, BeamO is not a cheap thermometer and it is not a miniature doctor’s office. It is a consolidation device: a single handheld unit that brings several spot-check tools and their records into the Withings app.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Buy it if you value convenience, shared records, remote appointments, or a single home-health kit for several family members.
  • Think twice if you mainly want blood-oxygen readings, blood pressure, continuous monitoring, or a diagnostic-grade multi-lead ECG.
  • Skip it if you already own reliable standalone devices and would not use the app, clinician sharing, or the digital stethoscope.

The strongest case for BeamO is not that every sensor is better than a dedicated medical device. It is that the device can reduce the number of tools a household needs and make it easier to collect context before a telehealth or clinician conversation.

Buying note: If the U.S. feature set matches your needs, compare the current listing for Withings BeamO before purchasing. Confirm the seller, price, return policy, and regional features rather than assuming that an overseas product page describes the U.S. model.

What does Withings BeamO measure?

Function What BeamO does U.S. availability What it does not mean
Temperature Uses Withings’ HotSpot Gen2 contactless temperature sensor, designed to identify the temporal artery on the forehead for fever detection and tracking. Available as part of the U.S. device feature set. It is a temperature measurement, not a complete assessment of why someone has a fever.
ECG Uses two stainless-steel electrodes to record a 30-second, single-lead ECG. The recording can be viewed on the device or in the Withings app. Withings lists the U.S. ECG as FDA-cleared, subject to the required activation process. A single-lead spot recording is not equivalent to a multi-lead clinical ECG and does not diagnose every heart problem.
Digital stethoscope Uses a piezoelectric sensor to capture heart and lung sounds for saving and sharing through the app. Available in the U.S. feature set described by Withings and the FDA documentation. A recording still needs suitable placement and qualified interpretation. BeamO does not independently turn a sound recording into a diagnosis.
Blood oxygen, or SpO2 Part of the broader BeamO product concept and listed for some regions. Withings’ U.S. feature table says SpO2 detection is not currently available in the United States and is pending FDA approval. The EU and UK feature sets list oxygen saturation. U.S. buyers should not purchase BeamO expecting an active built-in pulse-oximeter function.

The biggest issue: “4-in-1” does not mean the same thing everywhere

BeamO’s headline feature count can create the wrong expectation if you do not check the region. There are three separate questions to ask about any health device:

  1. Does the hardware contain the relevant sensor?
  2. Has the function received the required regulatory authorization in your market?
  3. Is the function enabled in the app and available to your account?

Those questions matter here. Withings’ support documentation identifies the U.S. ECG as FDA-cleared, while SpO2 detection and AFib detection are listed as pending FDA approval. The same regional table lists ECG with AFib and oxygen saturation for the European Union and United Kingdom.

That means a European BeamO description should not be copied into a U.S. buying guide without qualification. A U.S. owner may have the same product family and physical design but not the same enabled measurements or analysis features.

FDA clearance is narrower than a general health claim

The FDA record identifies Withings BeamO model SCT02 under the electrocardiograph classification and records a 510(k) decision dated November 10, 2025. The FDA summary describes the 30-second ECG waveform and the device’s stethoscope and temperature capabilities.

That regulatory record is meaningful, but clearance through the 510(k) pathway does not mean BeamO can detect every cardiac or respiratory condition at home. It also does not make the U.S. ECG an AFib detector when Withings says AFib detection remains pending for that market.

How each BeamO function works in practice

1. Contactless temperature readings

BeamO’s HotSpot Gen2 sensor is designed to take a forehead reading without skin contact and to identify the temporal artery area. This is useful when checking a sleeping child, a reluctant patient, or several people in a household without sharing a surface-contact thermometer.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The benefit is convenience and tracking in the same ecosystem. The limitation is interpretation: a temperature number is one piece of information. Symptoms, duration, age, medical history, and professional guidance still matter.

2. A 30-second single-lead ECG

To record an ECG, BeamO uses two stainless-steel electrodes. The result is a 30-second waveform that can be reviewed on the device or in the Withings app and shared with a clinician.

For occasional palpitations or a clinician-requested spot check, that can be more useful than a vague description of “my heart felt strange.” It gives a professional a time-stamped recording to consider alongside symptoms and other information.

It remains a single-lead recording. It should not be treated as a substitute for a clinical multi-lead ECG, an examination, or emergency evaluation. A normal-looking home recording also should not override serious symptoms.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

3. Digital heart and lung sounds

The digital stethoscope is BeamO’s most distinctive feature. Its piezoelectric sensor is intended to capture heart and lung sounds, save the recordings in the Withings app, and make them available for sharing with healthcare professionals.

It integrates multiple practical functions such as time display, weather forecast, music and camera control, alarm setting, phone search, etc., to help you easily manage your daily life.

This is potentially valuable in remote care because a clinician may receive more context than a temperature reading alone. It is also the feature most dependent on technique. The sensor must be placed appropriately, background noise can affect a recording, and the meaning of a sound depends on qualified clinical interpretation.

Withings lists a dedicated headphone accessory at $14.99 for listening to recordings. Headphones are optional rather than part of the standard package, so they should be viewed as a convenience accessory, not a requirement for BeamO’s core measurements. If this is important to your setup, check current compatibility and availability for BeamO headphones before ordering.

4. Blood oxygen, where permitted

Blood-oxygen monitoring is the clearest reason to check the regional feature table before buying. In the U.S., Withings says the SpO2 function is not currently available and remains pending FDA approval. The European Union and United Kingdom listings include oxygen saturation.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For a U.S. reader who specifically needs oxygen saturation, the practical solution is a standalone pulse oximeter for home use rather than assuming BeamO will provide that measurement. The FDA describes over-the-counter fingertip pulse oximeters as a separate Class II device category, but also warns that readings can be affected by circulation, skin pigmentation, skin temperature, tobacco use, nail polish, and other factors.

U.S. setup and data sharing

ECG activation is not simply “open the box and record”

Withings’ U.S. support documentation says ECG activation includes a board-certified cardiologist reviewing the first recording through the Withings app before continued use. This is an important part of the ownership experience and should be included in the buying decision.

It may add a delay or an extra setup step compared with a basic thermometer. It also illustrates the difference between a device being capable of recording an ECG and a particular market allowing the feature to be activated under its regulatory requirements.

Sharing is one of BeamO’s central advantages

ECG recordings and stethoscope recordings can be stored in the Withings app. Withings also describes sharing through Health Link or a health report, giving a clinician a more organized view of home measurements.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

This does not automatically turn a remote appointment into an in-person examination. It does, however, make BeamO more compelling for caregivers and households that need to collect repeat information for a clinician rather than take a one-off reading and write it down manually.

Price, subscription, and what you actually own

Up-front cost

Withings lists the U.S. BeamO retail price at $249.95. The package includes:

  • BeamO
  • USB-C-to-jack adapter
  • USB-C-to-USB-A charging cable
  • Pouch
  • Printed guides

Withings lists approximately eight months of battery life, a charging time of about one hour, Bluetooth Low Energy, and 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. App compatibility is listed as iOS 18 or later and Android 12 or later. These requirements and specifications should still be checked against the current product listing because software support and included items can change.

Core measurements do not require an ongoing subscription

According to Withings’ subscription materials, the core health data is available without paying for Withings+ indefinitely. That is an important positive for buyers who want to record, organize, and share measurements but do not need an additional coaching layer.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Withings+ is optional and adds features such as AI-driven insights, health scores, personalized guidance, and clinical services. The U.S. pricing page lists Withings+ at $9.95 per month or $99.50 per year.

U.S. BeamO purchases currently include a one-month Withings+ trial and one Cardio Check-Up review, according to Withings’ U.S. BeamO materials. Cardio Check-Up is an optional clinician review of an ECG and contextual health data. Withings says the review is delivered within 24 hours and is available in the U.S. through Withings+.

The practical ownership cost therefore depends on what you want:

Who should buy BeamO?

Families building a shared home-health kit

BeamO can reduce clutter by combining a thermometer, ECG electrodes, and digital stethoscope in one handheld device. A pouch and app-based records also make it easier to keep the kit available for multiple household members.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Caregivers collecting information for a remote appointment

Caregivers often need to communicate more than “the person felt unwell.” Temperature readings, a spot ECG, and heart or lung sound recordings may give a clinician additional context, provided the recordings are made correctly and the clinician considers them alongside symptoms and history.

Telehealth users who already use Withings

If your household already uses the Withings app, BeamO’s data organization and sharing tools may be more valuable than they would be in isolation. The same ecosystem can reduce friction when measurements need to be reviewed or sent through Health Link.

People who want occasional ECG recordings

BeamO is designed for spot checks, not continuous monitoring. That makes it a better fit for someone who wants an occasional 30-second recording than for someone looking for a device that continuously tracks cardiac or respiratory status.

Who should skip it?

  • U.S. buyers whose priority is SpO2: The U.S. version does not currently offer active blood-oxygen detection according to Withings’ regional feature information.
  • Anyone who needs blood pressure: BeamO does not replace a blood-pressure monitor.
  • Users seeking continuous monitoring: BeamO takes spot measurements; it is not an always-on ECG, oxygen, temperature, or stethoscope monitor.
  • People who already own the component devices: If you have an accurate thermometer, a suitable ECG-capable wearable or monitor, and a pulse oximeter, BeamO may mostly duplicate what you already own.
  • Anyone expecting a diagnosis from a gadget: No combination of BeamO readings replaces a clinician, physical examination, emergency care, or a full clinical workup.

BeamO compared with buying separate devices

Approach Advantages Trade-offs
BeamO One handheld unit, app organization, ECG and stethoscope sharing, less equipment to store. $249.95 up front; U.S. SpO2 and AFib limitations; each function has narrower capabilities than a specialist clinical tool.
Separate devices You can choose the best tool for each measurement, including a U.S.-available pulse oximeter and blood-pressure monitor. More devices, separate apps or records, more batteries and more opportunities to forget or misplace equipment.
Existing smartwatch or wearable plus basic tools May already cover some ECG or temperature needs for users who own compatible equipment. Can duplicate BeamO’s functions without offering its digital stethoscope or consolidated handheld design.

There is no universal winner. The right comparison is not BeamO versus an imaginary all-purpose medical device; it is BeamO versus the exact set of measurements your household needs. If that list includes temperature, occasional ECG, and clinician-shareable heart or lung recordings, consolidation has a credible value. If it includes blood pressure and oxygen saturation, separate devices remain necessary.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What a third-party review adds—and what it cannot prove

A current third-party review described the $249.95 price as reasonable for buyers who do not already own the component devices. That review was less convinced by the digital stethoscope than by the thermometer, ECG, and pulse-ox functions it assessed.

That is useful as a buyer-experience perspective, but it is not controlled clinical evidence and should not be generalized into a claim that BeamO is medically superior or inferior across all users. The stethoscope’s usefulness will depend heavily on placement, recording quality, the person being examined, and the professional interpreting the result.

Safety and limitations

BeamO is an information and monitoring tool, not a diagnostic service or emergency device. Do not use a BeamO reading to delay emergency care or to rule out a serious condition.

  • A single-lead ECG is a spot recording, not a multi-lead clinical examination.
  • An ECG result should be interpreted with symptoms and medical history by a qualified professional.
  • Heart and lung sound recordings require suitable placement and clinical interpretation.
  • Temperature alone cannot establish the cause or severity of an illness.
  • In regions where SpO2 is available, pulse-ox readings can be affected by circulation, skin pigmentation, skin temperature, tobacco use, nail polish, and other factors.
  • In the U.S., do not assume that a BeamO listing from another region includes active SpO2 or AFib detection.

If someone has severe breathing difficulty, chest pain, fainting, sudden weakness, blue or gray lips, confusion, or another urgent symptom, contact emergency services or a healthcare professional rather than relying on BeamO or any other home reading.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Our verdict

Withings BeamO is a thoughtful convenience product whose value comes from consolidation and sharing. At $249.95, it can make sense for families, caregivers, and telehealth users who would otherwise buy or manage several tools and who will use the Withings app.

It is a weaker purchase for a U.S. buyer attracted primarily by the “4-in-1” label. The current U.S. feature limitation is significant: SpO2 detection and AFib detection are pending FDA approval, while blood-pressure measurement and continuous monitoring are not part of BeamO’s role. A separate fingertip pulse oximeter is still needed if oxygen saturation matters.

The fairest conclusion is therefore conditional: BeamO is worth it as an all-in-one home monitoring and clinician-sharing kit, but not as a replacement for a complete set of medical devices or professional care.

The Bottom Line

Bottom line: Buy Withings BeamO for its shared app records, 30-second ECG, contactless temperature readings, and digital heart/lung sound recordings. For U.S. buyers, do not count on built-in SpO2 or AFib detection yet, and remember that BeamO does not measure blood pressure, provide continuous monitoring, or diagnose illness.
