The claim that an Italian paramedic stole James Gandolfini’s Rolex was an allegation, not an established fact. Claudio Bevilacqua, an Ares 118 emergency responder who attended Gandolfini, was acquitted in 2018; the watch was never recovered, and no witness had seen him take it.
What happened to James Gandolfini in Rome?
Gandolfini, best known for playing Tony Soprano, died in Rome in June 2013 after cardiac arrest. Reuters reported that Claudio Modini, the emergency-room chief at Policlinico Umberto I, said resuscitation efforts continued for 40 minutes before doctors declared Gandolfini dead. Reuters reported Modini’s account in 2013.
Why was a paramedic accused over a Rolex?
Reports later said a Rolex was missing and named Bevilacqua, an Ares 118 emergency responder who attended Gandolfini’s medical emergency, as the accused. A 2016 account by Corriere della Sera said it was unclear whether the watch disappeared from the hotel room or had been on Gandolfini when he became ill. The report described proceedings that were still pending; it did not establish how or when the watch went missing.
What was the outcome of the case?
In March 2018, Bevilacqua was acquitted. la Repubblica reported that prosecutors had sought a three-year sentence, but no witness had seen him take the watch and the Rolex had not been found. The report described the acquittal as based on the absence of proof of guilt beyond reasonable doubt.

The 2018 report identifies the watch as a Rolex Submariner, but does not give a reference number. It also says the watch had not been recovered. Its later whereabouts are not established, so the exact watch cannot be identified or matched to a particular Submariner model.
