Jacky Ickx visited Sydney for a Chopard dinner with collectors and horological press, where he spoke about the people and teamwork behind both motor racing and watchmaking. A February 7, 2025, report by Jamie Weiss in Time+Tide also traced Ickx’s friendship with Chopard Co-President Karl-Friedrich Scheufele and the seven limited-edition signature watches associated with their relationship.
What brought Jacky Ickx to Sydney
Weiss’s Time+Tide account describes Ickx attending a Sydney dinner with Chopard collectors and horological press earlier in February 2025. The evening was an opportunity to talk not only about his racing career, but also about the long-running connection between Ickx and the watchmaker.
Ickx drew a parallel between a racing team and fine watchmaking: both depend on the contribution of people working behind the scenes, many of whom the public may never meet. As quoted by Weiss, he said: “There’s so much going on behind the scenes by people who are just as passionate as you that you might never meet”.

The range matters: the Sydney story is not simply a retrospective on Ickx’s Formula 1 years. Its selection of results spans circuit racing, endurance events, rallying and a major Australian touring-car race.
How Ickx’s friendship with Chopard began
According to Weiss, Ickx first met Chopard Co-President Karl-Friedrich Scheufele at the 1989 Mille Miglia Storica, an event Chopard supports. The two later became friends and competed in the event together. Ickx joked that Scheufele does most of the driving, except when the weather turns.

The relationship has also extended to watches: the feature says it has produced seven limited-edition signature models bearing Ickx’s name. It does not identify their references or provide specifications, so the figure establishes the scope of the collaboration, not a guide to particular models.
What Ickx said about the past and present
Asked about his racing record by Supercars reporter Riana Crehan, Ickx steered the conversation toward the people with whom he had shared his career. Weiss quoted him saying: “I’m not nostalgic about the past. I’m nostalgic about the people I shared my past with… I’m excited about the present and what the future has to offer.”

That perspective also helps explain why the dinner account gives attention to teamwork, friendship and shared experiences alongside race results. The story’s focus is as much on relationships as on trophies.
What the article says about Ickx’s recent activities
At the time of its February 2025 publication, Time+Tide reported that Ickx regularly participated in the Mille Miglia Storica and had recently returned to Bathurst. There, he drove Genesis’ X Gran Berlinetta Concept around Mount Panorama for the car’s global racetrack debut. These are reports about activity around that publication date, not confirmation of what Ickx is doing now.
