What is the IWC APXGP watch?
IW378009 is the 43 mm version of IWC’s Pilot’s Watch Chronograph APXGP. IWC announced it at Watches and Wonders Geneva on 1 April 2025 as part of a group of three chronographs inspired by APXGP, the fictional team in the film F1. The release was a 2025 launch, not a new release today.
The design uses APXGP’s black, gold and white colors. The black dial has white numerals and gold minute markers; the hour and minute hands and subdial hands are gold-plated and filled with white Super-LumiNova. A tinted sapphire caseback carries the APXGP logo in gold. The black rubber strap is laser-engraved to commemorate the team.

IWC’s 1 April 2025 release describes the winding system this way: “The movement’s bidirectional pawl winding system reliably builds up a power reserve of 46 hours in the mainspring.”

How is the APXGP watch connected to F1?
The connection is to F1 and its fictional APXGP team: the model’s name, color scheme, caseback logo and engraved strap all refer to that team. IWC’s April 2025 announcement said the film was scheduled to open in US theatres and IMAX on 27 June 2025 and internationally on 25 June 2025. Those were planned theatrical dates at the time; they do not establish current streaming availability.
How does IW378009 differ from the other APXGP chronographs?
Reference numbers matter because IWC announced multiple APXGP chronographs. IW378009 is the 43 mm stainless-steel model; the Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41, reference IW388116, is 41 mm. IWC also announced a separate performance chronograph. The announcement identifies these as distinct models, so details for one should not be assumed to apply to another.
