What is the IWC Tribute to 3705?
IW387905 is a Pilot’s Watch Chronograph edition introduced in 2021. IWC describes it as a homage to the 1994 reference 3705, nicknamed the “Black Flieger” and identified by the manufacturer as its first pilot’s watch in black zirconium oxide ceramic. The modern watch retains the black pilot-chronograph character while changing key materials and the movement.
IWC’s February 2021 announcement calls the edition limited to 1,000 pieces. That figure describes the announced production limit, not the number currently available for sale.
How does IW387905 differ from the original 3705?
The supported comparison is about the case material and movement, rather than a claim that the tribute is an exact reproduction. IWC says the original 3705 used black zirconium oxide ceramic and a Valjoux calibre 7750; IW387905 uses Ceratanium and IWC-manufactured calibre 69380.

What is Ceratanium?
IWC describes Ceratanium as a material combining characteristics of titanium and ceramic: light and robust like titanium, and hard and scratch-resistant like ceramic. Those are the manufacturer’s descriptions, not independent test results. On IW387905, IWC specifies Ceratanium for the case, chronograph pushers and pin buckle.
What movement and functions does the IW387905 have?
The watch uses automatic calibre 69380, which IWC describes as a column-wheel chronograph with a bidirectional pawl winding system. IWC lists a 46-hour power reserve, a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz), 242 components and 33 jewels.

Is the IWC Tribute to 3705 still available?
IWC lists IW387905 under past collections. Its 2021 release said it was available at launch through IWC.com, WeChat, YNAP and IWC’s official flagship store on Tmall; that is historical channel information, not evidence of present-day inventory.
