What makes the IW327003 distinctive?
IWC’s product page describes this as the first time the compact Mark XVIII used the Saint-Exupéry editions’ tobacco-brown dial and brown calfskin-strap design. The company’s 2017 release also highlights decorative white stitching on the strap. The brown palette distinguishes this reference from other Mark XVIII variants; it does not, by itself, establish a production limit or edition size.
The case-back engraving depicts a Lockheed P-38 Lightning, according to IWC’s reference guide. The aircraft connection reflects Saint-Exupéry’s career as a pilot; the manufacturer’s release identifies him as a French pilot and author. IWC’s 18 May 2017 release describes tobacco brown and white-stitched calfskin as distinguishing features of its Saint-Exupéry special editions.

Movement, protection and everyday functions
Calibre 35111 is an automatic movement with a stated 42-hour power reserve. IWC also lists a date display and central hacking seconds, which stops the seconds hand when setting the time. The 42-hour figure is the manufacturer’s specification; it is not a claim about a measured example’s real-world running time.

A soft-iron inner case provides the specified magnetic-field protection. IWC also says the convex sapphire crystal is secured against displacement by pressure drops. These are distinct design features: the former addresses magnetic fields, while the latter concerns the crystal’s security under pressure changes. IWC rates the watch to 6 bar; that rating should not be expanded into an unqualified claim about suitability for every water activity.
Choosing a replacement strap
IWC specifies a 20 mm strap width and an 18 mm buckle width for IW327003. The width is a useful starting point when looking for an alternate strap, but it does not guarantee that any 20 mm strap will fit or suit the watch.

Do not identify a Mark XVIII by the collection name alone: compare the full reference. For a useful reference-to-reference comparison, check:
- Dial color and any edition-specific details, including case-back engraving.
- Case diameter and height.
- Movement, stated power reserve, date display and hacking seconds.
- Strap width, attachment and buckle arrangement.
- Magnetic protection, crystal protection and water-resistance rating.
Those details distinguish the IW327003 without implying that it is better or worse than another Mark XVIII. IWC’s page places this reference in past collections; it does not establish current stock, a market price or the availability of a particular replacement strap.
