Its redesigned alarm places the gong inside the case, making the hammer and gong visible through the sapphire display back. It is the standard time-and-date Memovox, not the countdown-equipped, limited-edition Memovox Timer.
What the 2020 Master Control Memovox does
The standard Master Control Memovox combines hours, minutes, central seconds, a date display at 3 o’clock and a mechanical alarm. Its silver sunray dial has applied indices, a central alarm indication, a blue central seconds hand and small luminous details. Two crowns control the watch: Monochrome identifies the crown at 2 o’clock as the alarm-setting crown and the one at 4 o’clock as the time-setting crown.
The model was announced in June 2020 as reference Q4118420, also rendered 4118420. Launch coverage described the standard model as non-limited.
How its alarm works—and what changed
The watch uses automatic in-house caliber 956. In the redesigned arrangement described in launch coverage, the gong is fixed to the inside of the case rather than relying on the caseback as part of the sound system. The hammer can be seen striking the peripheral gong through the sapphire display back, so the alarm mechanism is not hidden behind an opaque back as it was in earlier arrangements.

Jaeger-LeCoultre’s release described the alarm as having a “school bell” sound, as relayed by Hodinkee. That is the brand’s characterization, not a measured loudness result; no sound measurement is established here.

The dimensions, water resistance and reserve are reported in 2020 model-specific coverage by Hodinkee and Monochrome Watches; the frequency is reported by Monochrome. Movement component and jewel counts differ between coverage, so they are omitted rather than presented as settled specifications.
Monochrome reports the brown Novonappa calfskin strap and steel pin buckle. Jaeger-LeCoultre’s collection page describes Novonappa calf leather and Presto Spring attachment for Master Control straps, but that general description does not confirm the fitted strap or replacement compatibility for every individual Q4118420. Check the particular watch and strap before ordering.
Memovox vs. Memovox Timer: the key differences
The same-year Master Control Memovox Timer is a separate model. It adds a countdown indication, has a two-tone blue sunray dial and was limited to 250 pieces worldwide. Both watches share the 40 mm steel case, 50 m water resistance and caliber 956 family with a reported 45-hour reserve.

These distinctions and US launch prices were reported by Hodinkee. Monochrome reported a launch-era price of EUR 12,000 for the standard model in its market. The dollar and euro figures refer to different launch-market reports, not current prices or directly comparable offers.

The reported launch-era prices were $11,600 in the US and EUR 12,000 in Monochrome’s market for the standard watch. Where it fits in the Master Control line
Jaeger-LeCoultre says the Master Control collection launched in 1992 and draws on classic 1950s watch designs; the brand’s history identifies the Memovox among the watches informing the collection’s design language. The company also says each watch undergoes its 1,000 Hour Control program, including checks of positions, power reserve, temperature, movement and water resistance, with testing that can run up to six weeks.
