What is the Jaeger-LeCoultre Calibre 948?
Calibre 948 is the automatic movement inside the Master Grande Tradition world-time watch. Its central map and city ring rotate together around the dial, while the tourbillon is carried on that orbit. Jaeger-LeCoultre first presented the Calibre 948 concept in 2022; reference Q52824E2 is the pink-gold and enamel interpretation announced on 9 October 2025. How does the world-time display work?
The blue opaline city ring names reference cities around the dial. Outside it are a 24-hour indication and a minute track. The domed map and city ring rotate together through a complete 360-degree circuit every 24 hours, according to the manufacturer. This lets the display relate the named cities to the day-and-night cycle; it is not a set of separately adjusted city hands.
The Universal Tourbillon has two motions: its cage completes a rotation every 60 seconds, while the mechanism carrying it travels around the dial over 24 hours. Jaeger-LeCoultre describes the orbiting tourbillon as patented. These are the brand’s descriptions of the mechanism, not independent test findings.

How do you set the time for a new destination?
The crown sets the time and synchronizes the world-time indication. When changing destination, the local hour hand jumps in one-hour increments in either direction; the minutes and seconds continue running. The brand describes the mechanism as adjusting the local hour rather than setting each city independently. The official Q52824E2 product page identifies the reference and its world-time functions.
What is distinctive about the Q52824E2 dial?
The 2025 dial layers miniature map-making and decorative techniques. Jaeger-LeCoultre says the continents are made with champlevé enamel, while the ocean is translucent blue lacquer over a wavy guilloché pattern. The skeletonized map is domed and viewed from the North Pole.
