Lange & Söhne 1815 are watch families, not single models. The clearest difference is their design: a Reverso has a rectangular case that slides and swivels, while the 1815 takes a traditional round-watch approach. Some Reverso Tribute versions also put a second display on the reverse; the 1815 examples discussed here are hand-wound watches, but their specifications vary by reference.
What is the essential difference?
The Reverso’s defining feature is its reversible case. Its sliding, swivelling construction began as a way to turn the dial inward for protection; on some modern versions, the reverse also carries another display. The 1815 is a round-watch family whose identity is expressed through traditional proportions and hand-wound movement architecture. Neither description alone makes one the better choice: the decision turns on whether you want the Reverso’s distinctive case and, optionally, dual displays, or the 1815’s conventional round presentation.
Jaeger-LeCoultre dates the Reverso’s creation to 1931. Its official history recounts that César de Trey received a challenge from polo players in 1930 to protect a watch’s glass during play, then worked with Jacques-David LeCoultre and case designer René-Alfred Chauvot on the swivelling case. A patent application followed on 4 March 1931. The reverse first served to protect the dial and later became a surface for personalization. Jaeger-LeCoultre’s Reverso history
The 1815 is named for the birth year of Ferdinand Adolph Lange. A. Lange & Söhne’s collection page describes the design in terms of simplicity and functionality; the family includes variants with different movements and case details. A. Which Reverso Tribute configuration are you comparing?
“Reverso Tribute” covers watches with different displays. The official Reverso Tribute Small Seconds reference Q713843J is a Monoface: its hour, minute and small-seconds displays are on one side. The Tribute Duoface Small Seconds adds a second time zone and a 24-hour display on the reverse. Those are different references, so do not carry one model’s measurements or movement details over to the other.
Reverso Tribute Small Seconds Q713843J
Jaeger-LeCoultre lists a stainless-steel case measuring 8.51 mm thick, a black calfskin strap, and 20 mm lug width for Q713843J. The strap is quick-release and interchangeable. Inside is hand-wound calibre 822, with a stated 42-hour power reserve; the brand lists 108 components and 19 jewels. The movement drives hours, minutes and small seconds. Jaeger-LeCoultre describes the slide-and-swivel mechanism as comprising more than 50 components. Official Reverso Tribute Small Seconds specifications

Reverso Tribute Duoface Small Seconds
The Duoface Small Seconds uses hand-wound calibre 854 and has a stated 42-hour reserve. Its reverse display shows a second time zone with a 24-hour indicator. The product selector lists a stainless-steel option measuring 47 × 28.3 mm; that size belongs to this option, not to Q713843J or every Duoface. What does the 1815 family offer?
The official 1815 collection page describes a model powered by hand-wound calibre L152.1, with a stated 72-hour power reserve. It also identifies a freely sprung balance and a hand-engraved balance cock. The same page discusses a larger variant in 750 white or pink gold, with a 925 silver argenté dial and calibre L051.1. These details apply to the described variants; they should not be treated as specifications for every 1815. Official 1815 collection information

This is an editorial translation of the German statement on the collection page, not an original English quotation.
How do their functions and movements compare?
| Reference or variant | Display and function | Movement and winding | Stated power reserve |
|---|---|---|---|
| Reverso Tribute Small Seconds Q713843J | Hours, minutes and small seconds on one side | Calibre 822, hand-wound | 42 hours, per Jaeger-LeCoultre’s product page |
| Reverso Tribute Duoface Small Seconds | Second time zone and 24-hour display on the reverse | Calibre 854, hand-wound | 42 hours, per Jaeger-LeCoultre’s product page |
| 1815 model described with calibre L152.1 | Exact functions depend on the model listing | Calibre L152.1, hand-wound | 72 hours, per A. Lange & Söhne’s collection page |
| Larger 1815 variant described with calibre L051.1 | Exact functions depend on the model listing | Calibre L051.1; winding details not stated on the cited collection page | Not stated on the cited collection page |
The stated reserves make the L152.1 1815 model longer-running between full windings than the two cited Reverso Tribute examples, but this is a comparison of those specific variants, not a family-wide performance ranking. Reserve is only one practical difference: the Duoface’s reverse display provides a second-time-zone function that the cited Reverso Monoface does not have. No second-time-zone function is established for the cited 1815 variants; check the exact reference before comparing complications.

How should you compare size, materials and price?
Use exact references rather than family names. The Q713843J’s stated thickness and strap details do not establish the dimensions of every Reverso Tribute, and the Duoface selector’s 47 × 28.3 mm measurement applies to its listed stainless-steel option. The 1815 collection page identifies gold and dial details for a larger variant, but does not establish a matched set of dimensions for comparison here. A meaningful fit comparison requires the specific case dimensions and, where available, a try-on; rectangular and round cases can wear differently even when a single measurement looks similar.
Current comparable prices are not established for these watches. Price depends on exact reference, material, market, taxes and availability, and the evidence here does not verify current retail or secondary-market figures. Check the brands’ current listings and authorized retailers in your market before treating price as a deciding comparison.

Which one fits your priorities?
- Choose a Reverso Tribute Monoface if you want the swivelling rectangular case and a single primary display, as in Q713843J.
- Consider the Reverso Tribute Duoface Small Seconds if you specifically want a second time zone with a 24-hour reverse display.
- Consider an 1815 reference if you prefer a round-watch presentation and want to assess a particular hand-wound Lange movement, such as L152.1 or L051.1, on its own specifications.
- Compare exact references before purchase for dimensions, metal, functions, movement, reserve and market price. Family names alone do not settle those questions.
There is no verified head-to-head accuracy, durability, service-cost, resale or finishing test here, so those should not be treated as established advantages for either family. The practical decision supported by the available specifications is about design and configuration: reversible case and optional dual display versus a round 1815 whose details depend on the chosen model.
