Today, “Bond Omega” can mean several distinct Seamaster models and commemorative editions—not one fixed watch. To compare fairly, identify the exact reference first, then weigh its design, functions and Bond connection against the specific Submariner you have in mind.
Which watch did James Bond wear?
There is no single watch that covers every Bond film. Rolex’s Submariner history says a Submariner appeared on Sean Connery’s wrist in the first James Bond film. OMEGA dates the Seamaster’s first appearance on Bond’s wrist to GoldenEye in 1995, as described on its James Bond page.

The distinction is a shift in the franchise’s watch association: the Submariner has an earlier screen connection, while the Seamaster has been associated with Bond films since 1995. That does not mean every Bond film watch was an OMEGA, or that today’s 007-branded models are identical to the watches shown in the films.

OMEGA’s Bond-related Seamaster Diver 300M models include film-tied editions as well as later commemorative releases. Their shared connection to Bond does not make their cases, dials, straps or references interchangeable.

What distinguishes the current Rolex Submariner?
Rolex lists the current Submariner and Submariner Date as water-resistant to 300 metres. Its Submariner features page specifies a unidirectional bezel with a 60-minute graduated Cerachrom insert, a Triplock winding crown, a Chromalight display and an Oyster bracelet. The collection includes steel, two-tone and gold versions, so materials and other details depend on the exact model.

Choose the no-date Submariner or the Submariner Date as a separate comparison point. Rolex dates the Submariner Date’s introduction to 1969; its date window adds a complication and changes the dial’s appearance. The current Submariner Date feature page lists Calibre 3235.
The Submariner first launched in 1953 with a stated water resistance of 100 metres, according to Rolex’s historical account. That original specification is not the rating of the current models.
How to compare an Omega Seamaster and Rolex Submariner
Start with a full reference number rather than comparing a broad collection name with a special edition. Then compare only specifications that apply to those exact watches.
| Comparison point | What to check | What the cited specifications establish |
|---|---|---|
| Bond connection | Whether you mean the Submariner’s earlier screen appearance, the Seamaster’s association from 1995, or a particular commemorative edition. | Rolex identifies a Submariner in the first Bond film; OMEGA identifies GoldenEye (1995) as the Seamaster’s first Bond appearance. |
| Reference and edition | Full reference number and whether the watch is a standard model, film-tied edition or later commemorative release. | The No Time To Die 007 Edition references and the 2026 James Bond collection are distinct products. |
| Case, dial and bracelet or strap | Materials, color, bezel finish, and the supplied bracelet or strap. | The cited OMEGA editions differ in materials and dial details; Rolex configurations also vary by Submariner model. |
| Movement and display | Movement, date display, stated power reserve and any certification claims for the exact reference. | The cited OMEGA 007 Edition lists Calibre 8806 and 55 hours; the Submariner Date feature page lists Calibre 3235. |
| Water resistance | The manufacturer’s rating for the exact watch and its condition. | Rolex lists 300 metres for current Submariner and Submariner Date models. A depth rating alone does not establish comparative real-world performance or make an unserviced watch suitable for diving. |
| Fit and ownership | How the watch sits on your wrist, local price and availability, service needs, and your priorities. | These depend on the individual, reference, market and watch condition; the cited specifications do not establish which is more comfortable, better value or stronger on resale. |
Which one makes more sense for you?
Choose by Bond connection
If the earlier Bond-film association matters most, the Submariner has the prior screen connection described by Rolex. If you mean the watch associated with Bond films from GoldenEye onward, look at the Seamaster—but distinguish the model seen in a film from a later 007 edition or commemorative release.

Choose by design and function
Decide whether you want a date display, which case and dial materials appeal to you, and whether you prefer a bracelet or strap. Compare those details on the exact references: “Seamaster” and “Submariner” each cover configurations that are not identical.
Choose by fit and local availability
Try the specific watch on your wrist where possible, and check its current price, availability and service arrangements in your market. Manufacturer specifications cannot tell you how a particular case or bracelet will feel, and a dated launch announcement is not proof of local stock.
