How to read the Vingt-8 ISO
Start with the hands’ positions relative to one another, then read them against the moving chapter ring. Unlike a standard watch, where the minute scale stays fixed to the case, the ISO’s ring advances with the hour hand. The relationship between the hands therefore supplies an important part of the reading.
- At each full hour: the minute and hour hands overlap.
- At each half hour: the hands point in opposite directions.
- At each quarter hour: the hands form a right angle.
These repeating alignments help orient the wearer as the ring moves. Why the minute hand’s rate is reported differently
Published descriptions agree that the chapter ring advances with the hour hand, but they conflict on the minute hand’s exact revolution rate. Hodinkee says it makes 13 revolutions around the dial every 12 hours; the Phillips auction essay says 13 rotations every hour. The 2026 Phillips interview does not provide a revolution count. Those figures should not be combined or treated as a settled specification.
For the core reading idea, the reliable point across the cited descriptions is the moving relationship between the hands and the chapter ring. The exact rate should be confirmed against a current technical specification if it matters to a detailed mechanical comparison. Hodinkee’s description and the Phillips auction essay contain the differing rates.

Phillips describes a unique Vingt-8 ISO made in 2019 in pink gold. A 2026 Phillips interview places the ISO among experimental versions of the Vingt-8 family. The auction catalog records that example as sold for CHF 151,200. That is one historical auction result for a specific unique watch; it is not a current asking price or a representative valuation for other examples.
