King Seiko VANAC returned in 2025 with an angular steel design shaped by Seiko’s “Tokyo horizon” theme. The collection expanded in Japan in July 2026 with three titanium references: HKF001J, HKF002J and HKF003J. The revival draws on VANAC’s colorful, multifaceted 1972 identity, but Seiko presents the modern watches as a new interpretation rather than replicas of a vintage model.
What is King Seiko VANAC?
Seiko dates the original King Seiko VANAC to 1972 and describes it as a series known for bright colors and innovative, multifaceted design. The name returned to the collection in 2025, more than fifty years later. In Seiko’s telling, the new VANAC carries forward that spirit through contemporary design rather than reproducing one specific original reference. Seiko’s March 2025 announcement introduces the revival.
How the modern design interprets the Tokyo horizon
Seiko says the contemporary design takes inspiration from Tokyo, the city where King Seiko was born. Its “Tokyo horizon” theme appears in a horizontal-striped dial and an inset index ring, framed by an angular, bezel-less case. The 12 o’clock index and seconds-hand counterweight use V-shaped forms, while the bracelet alternates mirror-finished and hairline-finished surfaces. Seiko also describes the case mirror finishing as distortion-free; that is the manufacturer’s design description, not an independent assessment.
The original steel series used purple, navy and silver dials, which Seiko associates respectively with evening twilight, midnight and sunrise. A separate Australia-market listing includes SLA093 and SLA095 leather-strap variants, with colors described as inspired by Tokyo forests and availability given as January 2026. These variants illustrate how the range differs by market; confirm the reference and local availability on the relevant listing. Seiko Australia’s VANAC page shows its collection.

What changed with the 2026 titanium models?
In an announcement dated 19 March 2026, Seiko Watch Japan introduced three titanium versions for Japan: HKF001J, HKF002J and HKF003J. Their scheduled release date was 10 July 2026, with a suggested retail price of ¥473,000 including tax. Those date and price details apply to the Japan announcement; they should not be treated as global release or pricing information. Seiko Watch Japan’s titanium announcement lists the references and market details.
Seiko says the titanium watches are approximately 40% lighter than stainless steel. That is the manufacturer’s comparative claim, not a stated weight in grams. The titanium dials come in purple, grey and black, associated in the announcement with twilight, highway structures and cars moving through Tokyo at night. Their surface combines a radial pattern with horizontal striping, and the hands and hour markers have luminous treatment. This makes the titanium trio a visual variation as well as a material change.

How to compare VANAC models before buying
- Match the reference to the market. Codes and lineups vary by region. For example, the Japan titanium references carry a “J” suffix, while other regional pages may list different models.
- Check material and fit separately. The original release is specified with a stainless-steel case and bracelet; the Japan expansion uses titanium. Use dimensions published for the exact reference you are considering. Diameter and thickness alone do not establish how a watch will feel on your wrist.
- Identify the strap or bracelet supplied. The launch steel models used a bracelet, while the Australia listing includes leather-strap variants. Do not assume a strap from one reference fits another without checking compatibility.
- Compare the dial as well as the color name. The steel launch palette reflects Seiko’s evening, midnight and sunrise associations; the titanium dials add radial patterning and Tokyo night-driving references.
- Verify performance and buying details locally. The 8L45 figures above describe the initial steel release. Check the exact regional reference page for current price, stock and any specifications not established for the titanium models in the Japan announcement.
