The original Kurono Calendrier Type I is a 38 mm, Japan-made full-calendar watch with a khaki dial and Art Deco-inspired details. Its reference is CL001L; the model launched in September 2022 and Kurono’s product page marks that release sold out. Those facts identify the original, but they do not establish whether a pre-owned example is available today.
This is a specification-led look at the watch, not a personal wear or performance test. The details below come from Kurono Tokyo’s official model page and the Fondation du Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève’s model record.

What is the Kurono Calendrier Type I?
Kurono names the model Calendrier ‘Type I’; the GPHG record styles it Calendrier Type 1 and identifies it as reference CL001L. The record gives a September 2022 launch and lists a 000-pieces limited series, while Kurono describes the watch as a limited edition. Kurono’s page labels the original release “SOLD OUT.” That is the brand page’s stated release status, not confirmation of current resale stock. Kurono Tokyo’s Calendrier Type I page; GPHG model record.
The GPHG record lists a historical price of CHF 1,700 including VAT. It is a dated listed price from the 2022 record, not a current asking price or an estimate of secondary-market value.

Design and case specifications
The watch pairs a khaki dial with a polished coin-edge bezel, blacklettered numerals, guilloché subdials and railway-track minute markings. Kurono says the dial curves from its center to its edge and is made from two pressed layers to create a three-dimensional effect; it also describes the numerals as printed in raised format. Polished leaf hands indicate the hours and minutes. The maker describes the seconds hand as thin and counterweighted, with the tips of the minute and seconds hands bent by hand. These are the brand’s descriptions of the design, not independent inspection findings. Kurono Tokyo.
| Specification | Published detail |
|---|---|
| Case diameter | 38 mm (Kurono Tokyo; GPHG model record) |
| Case thickness | 10 mm; 11.5 mm including the box sapphire crystal (Kurono Tokyo) |
| Case material and finish | Forged 316L stainless steel; polished, mirror-finished sides (Kurono Tokyo) |
| Crystal | Scratch-resistant box sapphire, raised in profile to evoke vintage acrylic; Kurono says it is 0.15 mm higher than an ordinary sapphire box crystal (Kurono Tokyo) |
| Water resistance | 5 ATM on Kurono’s page; 50 m in the GPHG record |
| Caseback | Solid (Kurono Tokyo) |
| Strap width | 20 mm (Kurono Tokyo) |
The 5 ATM / 50 m figures are published ratings, not a guarantee of suitability for every water activity or evidence of an independent test. Kurono’s scratch-resistance description is likewise a product specification, not a result of independent testing.
The 20 mm strap width is a useful starting point when looking for a replacement strap, but width alone does not establish full compatibility. Check the strap’s fit at the lugs and the buckle dimensions and type against the watch and the strap you intend to use.
Movement and calendar display
The Calendrier Type I uses a Japan-made Miyota 9122 automatic movement. Its displays include hours, minutes, center seconds, month, weekday and date. Kurono specifies a 40-hour power reserve, 26 jewels and a frequency of 28,800 beats per hour. The GPHG record also lists a 40-hour reserve and 28,800 vph. These are published specifications, not timing or power-reserve measurements made for this article. Kurono Tokyo; GPHG model record.
How to set the calendar safely
Kurono gives two specific cautions for adjusting this model’s calendar. Follow the maker’s instructions rather than assuming the calendar can be changed at any time:
- Do not change the month while the date window shows 31.
- Do not change the weekday or the windowed date display when the time is between 9:00 p.m. and 3:00 a.m.
These restrictions are stated on the official Calendrier Type I page.

The original release is marked sold out on Kurono’s page. That does not confirm whether a particular reseller or private seller has a watch for sale now, and no current resale price follows from the historical CHF 1,700 including VAT figure. Treat listings individually and verify the exact watch rather than relying on a general model name.
- Confirm the reference is the original CL001L and that the dial is the khaki Type I, not a later variant.
- Ask for clear photographs and documentation that support the seller’s identification of the watch.
- Ask about operating condition and service history; a qualified watch professional can assess a specific example.
- Compare condition, completeness, seller documentation, service history and total delivered cost before deciding.
Kurono’s later Calendrier SBR is a separate Small Batch Release with its own specifications. Its blue dial, listing price or release terms should not be attributed to the original khaki Type I. Kurono Tokyo’s Calendrier SBR page.
What Kurono says about wear and aging
Kurono presents the watch as one intended for regular wear and for developing character over time. Hajime Asaoka’s stated design philosophy is: “Blemishes accumulated are unique to the wearer and is a written record of his journey and adventures through life. Owners should spend their time in meaningful pursuits rather than worry about scratches. Hence the design embraces such blemishes, adds character, and looks better over time,” said Hajime Asaoka. This is the designer’s perspective on wear, not a guarantee that every mark will improve the appearance of a particular watch. Kurono Tokyo.
