Chanel’s Monsieur Tourbillon Meteorite is a 2023, 55-piece limited edition—not a new 2026 release. It pairs a 42 mm matte black ceramic-and-steel case with a meteorite dial, an unusual figure-eight display and a flying tourbillon carrying a rotating lion-head motif. The manual-winding Caliber 5.1 has an approximately 72-hour power reserve.
A dark case and a dial made from meteorite
The 42 mm case combines matte black ceramic with steel. Monochrome identifies the bezel, crown and caseback as steel; Chanel’s 2023 collection document likewise describes a black ceramic and steel case with a steel crown. The finish keeps the watch’s overall appearance dark while letting the steel components provide contrast. Water resistance is rated to 30 m, according to Chanel’s 2023 specifications.
The dial is made from a meteorite fragment and partially openworked. Monochrome describes its surface as dark grey with striations; the openings reveal parts of the gear train and tourbillon escapement. Chanel’s collection document says, “The dial, created from a fragment of meteorite, makes each piece unique.”
How the display and tourbillon work
Two intersecting black rings create an inverted figure-eight layout. The larger ring indicates hours and minutes; the smaller display frames the seconds and tourbillon. This separates the main time display from the openworked mechanism without abandoning the watch’s circular design language.

A lion-head motif is mounted on the tourbillon cage, so it turns as the seconds pass. Chanel’s current Haute Horlogerie — Les Signatures de CHANEL page also identifies the lion as a signature motif in the house’s watchmaking.
Caliber 5.1 and the edition’s specifications
The manual-winding Caliber 5.1 is a manufacture mechanical movement with a flying tourbillon and an approximately 72-hour power reserve. Monochrome reports that the movement has a two-barrel architecture and is based on the caliber used in the classic jumping-hour Monsieur, adapted here for a flying tourbillon and conventional hours-and-minutes display. Monochrome also credits independent watchmaker Romain Gauthier with helping develop the original movement; that is the publication’s account, rather than a statement attributed to Chanel.

The reviewed sources do not establish whether the 55-piece edition is currently available or what it currently costs.
