The Leatherman Tread Tempo is a Swiss-made watch paired with an adjustable stainless-steel bracelet whose links carry small tools. It is a separate model from both the slimmer Tread Tempo LT and the standalone Tread bracelet. KnifeCenter marks model 832420 discontinued and unavailable there, so remaining new stock and used examples may vary by seller.

What is the Leatherman Tread Tempo?

The original Tread Tempo combines a watch with Leatherman’s customizable Tread links. Its 2020 catalog describes a 17-4 stainless-steel wearable multipurpose timepiece and lists 30 tools across the bracelet. The tools include screwdrivers, hex drives, box wrenches, Torx and Pozi-Driv drivers, a file, strap cutter, bottle opener, carbide glass breaker, socket adapter and link tool. Leatherman’s review notes that the band has no blade or pliers. Leatherman’s 2020 catalog and Leatherman’s Tread Tempo review document the model and its tool set.

It is not simply a watch face attached to an ordinary bracelet, nor is it the same product as the standalone Tread. Leatherman’s catalog presents the original Tempo and the Tempo LT as distinct models; their specifications and tool lists should not be treated as interchangeable.

What watch features does it have?

Leatherman’s product review describes the Tempo with a sapphire crystal, date display, three luminescent hands, 200 m water resistance and a five-year battery. KnifeCenter lists a Swiss-made Ronda 715 movement. These are published product specifications, not independent test results. Leatherman’s review and KnifeCenter’s model 832420 listing provide those details.

Does the Tread Tempo fit your wrist?

The bracelet can be resized by adding or removing links. In a 2017 interview, Leatherman said the Tempo clasp adjusts in one-eighth-inch increments. KnifeCenter lists the original Tempo’s circumference as 9.42 in (23.93 cm) and its weight as 9.6 oz. Those measurements apply to the original Tempo listing, not automatically to the Tempo LT or standalone Tread. Before buying a used example, confirm its included links and whether its current size suits your wrist. Leatherman’s interview explains the adjustment design; KnifeCenter’s listing gives the listed circumference and weight.

Can the bracelet fit another watch face?

Not as originally designed. In the 2017 interview, Leatherman said the Tempo was not designed to adapt to another watch face at that time. That statement describes the product’s original design; it does not establish whether any aftermarket adapter exists or works with a particular watch. Check exact model compatibility rather than assuming the links can be repurposed.

How does the Tempo differ from the Tempo LT and standalone Tread?

The key distinction is that the Tempo is a watch-and-tool-bracelet package, while the standalone Tread is a bracelet tool and the Tempo LT is a separate watch model. The available model-specific figures make clear why specifications should not be mixed:

Model What it is Model-specific details established here
Original Tread Tempo Swiss-made watch integrated with customizable Tread links Catalog lists 30 tools; KnifeCenter lists 9.42 in (23.93 cm) circumference and 9.6 oz for model 832420.
Tread Tempo LT A separate, slimmer watch model in Leatherman’s catalog Its own tool list and specifications; the original Tempo’s measurements and features should not be assumed to apply.
Standalone Tread A tool bracelet, not the original Tempo watch Distinct sizing and tool specifications; the original Tempo’s figures do not establish them.

The 2020 catalog identifies the two Tempo models separately. Leatherman’s Hong Kong page shows a Tempo LT listing, not proof of current availability for the original Tempo: Leatherman Hong Kong’s Tempo LT page.

Is the Tread Tempo still available?

KnifeCenter labels model 832420 “Discontinued” and says the product is no longer available from that retailer. That establishes its status at KnifeCenter, not universal absence: leftover stock or secondhand listings may still appear. If searching marketplaces, use “Leatherman Tread Tempo multi-tool watch” or model numbers 832420 and 832421, then verify the listing rather than assuming it is new or complete.

  • Confirm the model number and whether the watch runs and keeps time.
  • Check how many bracelet links are included and whether the link tool is present.
  • Review seller history, authenticity information, return terms and the item’s condition.
  • Do not assume a used watch remains eligible for the warranty described on an old product page.

Replacement links and repair parts may be relevant if a bracelet is incomplete, but current official availability was not established. Confirm compatibility with the exact Tempo model before buying parts.

Can you take it through airport security?

Do not treat the Tread’s historic “travel-friendly” positioning as a guarantee that it will be allowed through security. Leatherman’s current FAQ says security agents have discretion and international rules vary; the cited passage does not name the Tread Tempo as a guaranteed carry-on item. Check the applicable airport, airline and destination rules before traveling. Leatherman’s current FAQ explains the limits of its travel guidance.

What should you know about warranty and service?

KnifeCenter’s product listing describes a two-year warranty for the timepiece and 25 years for the bracelet. Treat that as historical listing language, not confirmation that a particular used watch is covered today. Leatherman currently directs customers to its warranty process and, outside North America, to an authorized distributor. Its FAQ says tools are designed for disassembly by factory-trained technicians, so contact support rather than relying on improvised disassembly or repair instructions. KnifeCenter’s listing gives the historical warranty terms; Leatherman’s FAQ covers current support guidance.
