The Lepsi Watch Scope is a phone-connected timing analyzer for mechanical watches—not an optical scope. It pairs a small measuring stand with a mobile app to report rate, frequency, beat error, and amplitude. Its published specifications describe display resolution, not independently verified accuracy, and the device’s legacy app and activation requirements make present-day usability uncertain.
What the Lepsi Watch Scope does
Lepsi describes the Watch Scope as a compact instrument that detects the beats of a mechanical movement and sends timing data to a mobile app. It is intended to analyze how a watch is running, not to magnify or inspect its dial, case, or movement surfaces.

The app presents four core readings:
- Rate variation: the watch’s gain or loss, shown in seconds per day.
- Frequency: the movement’s beat frequency, shown in alternations per hour (a/h).
- Beat error: the difference between the two beat intervals, shown in milliseconds.
- Amplitude: the balance’s swing, shown in degrees. The app needs the movement’s lift angle to calculate this reading; Lepsi’s guide says to enter the caliber’s lift angle for a precise amplitude result.
Lepsi’s user guide, published in 2015, lists automatic vibration detection from 14,400 to 36,000 a/h. That is the manufacturer’s stated detection range, not an independent confirmation that every movement in that range will produce a reliable result.
How setup and measurement work
The Watch Scope depends on both its dedicated stand and the associated app. Lepsi’s guide describes connecting the stand to a phone or tablet with the supplied four-pole 3.5 mm cable, placing the watch on the stand, and starting a measurement in the app.
#1 Best Overall
- Full hole maps
- Quick set up, ready to play straight out of the box
- Dynamic front, middle and back distances to the green
- 38,000+ preloaded courses worldwide
- Last shot distance measurement: Track your shot distance
- Install and activate the app. The guide says an internet connection and the code supplied with the device are required for activation.
- Calibrate the mobile device. Lepsi calls calibration imperative for a precise measurement. Its guide says to calibrate on first use and after reinstalling the app.
- Connect the stand and place the watch. Use the included four-pole 3.5 mm cable and position the watch on the stand as directed by the app.
- Choose a measurement duration and read the results. The guide describes durations from 10 to 120 seconds and says longer measurements increase precision. It also says a simple measurement can complete in 30 seconds.
- Enter the lift angle for amplitude. Use the angle specified for the movement caliber; without the correct input, the amplitude calculation should not be treated as precise.
The app guide also documents measurement history, collection tracking, reports, and continuous analysis. Those functions depend on being able to run the app, so their availability on a current phone is not established by the guide.
What the published specifications establish—and what they do not
The figures below are specifications in Lepsi’s guide, published in 2015. They are not current compatibility guarantees or independent performance tests.
| Item | Lepsi’s published figure | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| Rate performance resolution | 0.1 seconds per day | A displayed increment, not proof of accuracy to that level. |
| Amplitude resolution | 1 degree | A displayed increment; amplitude also depends on the entered lift angle. |
| Beat-error resolution | 0.1 ms | A displayed increment, not an independent validation result. |
| Automatic vibration detection | 14,400–36,000 a/h | Manufacturer-stated detection range. |
| Weight and dimensions | 30 g; 38 × 38 × 15 mm | Manufacturer-published device specifications. |
| Connector | Four-pole 3.5 mm jack | Used with the supplied cable to connect the stand to a mobile device. |
| Listed mobile OS compatibility | iOS 8.2 and higher; Android 4.4 and higher | Compatibility listed in the 2015 guide, not a statement about current app availability. |
No independent accuracy test or comparison with a professional timegrapher is established here. Resolution tells you the smallest increment shown; it does not show how close a reading is to the true value. Measurement duration, calibration, placement, and the correct lift-angle input all matter to how useful the readings are.
Is the Lepsi Watch Scope usable today?
Current operation is uncertain because the Watch Scope relies on a legacy mobile app and an activation process. A 2021 forum post reproduces a notice attributed to Lepsi saying the company would no longer improve its apps and that they would remain functional on the systems then current—iOS 13, Android 11, and Windows 10. The same post reports one user’s issue after updating to iOS 14. This is historical, forum-hosted information, not a current support statement.
An archived iOS listing says Apple no longer distributes the LEPSI Watch Scope app. That does not establish whether the Android app remains available or whether Lepsi’s online activation service still works. Before buying a used unit, confirm that you can obtain the correct app for your device and complete activation with the included code. A working cable and stand alone are not enough if the app or activation is unavailable.
The Google Play app called “WatchScope – Timegrapher App” is a separate product from another developer. Its listing is not evidence that it is a Lepsi replacement, works with Lepsi hardware, or is affiliated with Lepsi.

If your priority is measuring a mechanical watch without relying on Lepsi’s legacy app and activation chain, compare current dedicated mechanical watch timegraphers. Treat phone-microphone apps and dedicated instruments as different approaches, and verify the specific product rather than assuming it supports the same stand or workflow.
- Hardware and pickup method: determine whether the product uses a dedicated stand, a phone microphone, or another sensor.
- Calibration: check whether calibration is possible, what it uses as a reference, and whether it must be repeated.
- Measurements: confirm it provides the readings you need—especially rate, amplitude, beat error, and frequency.
- Measurement controls: check available durations and whether you can test in different positions.
- Software dependence: verify current platform support and whether the product requires an account, activation code, or internet connection.
- Evidence of performance: look for independent accuracy validation rather than treating display resolution as a measure of accuracy.
An optical loupe or generic scope is not an equivalent substitute: it helps inspect visible details, while a timegrapher analyzes movement timing.

The Watch Scope may interest a collector who already owns a working unit, can still access and activate the app, and wants a compact way to observe basic timing behavior. Its documented readings and history functions can be useful in that setting, provided results are treated as diagnostic readings rather than independently verified accuracy figures.
For a new or used purchase, the main decision is not the 2015 resolution specification; it is whether the app can be installed and activated on the device you intend to use. If that cannot be verified before purchase, a currently supported mechanical watch timegrapher is the lower-dependency choice.
