Omega Genève reference 137.0001 is a manual-wind chronometer powered by caliber 602. Fratello Watches describes it as a 33 mm solid-gold watch with a monocoque, front-loading case. Its rarity is often summarized with a reported production estimate of 4,000 pieces, but that figure is attributed to unspecified sources—not a named Omega production record.
What is the Omega Genève reference 137.0001?
It is a vintage Omega Genève with a manually wound caliber 602 movement. Fratello Watches identifies the reference and describes a round, 33 mm solid-gold case. Those specifications are the article’s account; confirm the reference, movement, dimensions and materials on any individual watch rather than assuming every example is identical.
The article describes the case as monocoque, or front-loading. Access to the movement is from the dial side: the crystal and crown are removed with a special tool identified as Tool 105. This construction has practical implications for service and is a job for a watchmaker equipped to handle it, not a do-it-yourself opening method.
Reported case and dial details
Fratello lists examples in 18k yellow, pink and white gold, as well as 14k yellow gold. It says a hallmark on the lug can distinguish gold fineness. Hallmarks and case construction should be inspected on the specific watch; the model description alone does not verify either.

Fratello also cites Omega’s book A Journey Through Time for a dial description: “…sun-brushed silver dial, minute circle with strokes, polished and riveted baquette hour markers, gold baton hands with a black line…” The unusual spelling “baquette” is retained from the quoted wording. A description of the intended dial is not proof that a particular watch’s dial, hands or other parts are original.
What does “chronometer” mean here?
Fratello says the caliber 602 in this reference is chronometer certified and reproduces this COSC definition: “A chronometer is a high-precision watch capable of displaying the seconds and housing a movement that has been tested over several days, in different positions and at different temperatures, by an official neutral body (COSC).” This explains the certification term as used in the article; it does not establish the present condition of a surviving watch or prove that its original certification papers remain with it.

That vintage designation should not be confused with OMEGA’s modern Master Chronometer program. In an October 21, 2025 article, OMEGA described its current program and METAS involvement. That modern certification context does not authenticate a vintage Genève or establish that it retains original documentation: OMEGA’s account of 10 years of Master Chronometer certification.
How rare is reference 137.0001?
Fratello Watches reported an estimated production of 4,000 pieces in its November 19, 2014 article, attributing the number only to “various sources.” Treat it as an estimate reported by Fratello, not an official or verified Omega production total. No named statistical publication or primary production register is established by that account.

- Stainless steel case

- Swiss-automatic movement
- Case diameter: 40mm

The estimate gives a sense of the model’s reported production scale, but it cannot establish how many examples survive today or how often one appears for sale. The available model account supplies no independently sourced production statistic to corroborate it.
What to check when assessing an example
Because examples can differ in material, originality and condition, assess the individual watch rather than relying on the reference description alone. Useful points to verify include:

- Rubber
- Rotating bezel, gmt
- Automatic-self-wind movement
- Case diameter: 40mm
- Water resistant to 330 feet
- Reference and movement: Check whether the watch is identified as reference 137.0001 and fitted with caliber 602; have a qualified watchmaker confirm the movement.
- Case construction and gold: Inspect the case and lug hallmarks. Since the case is described as front-loading, use a specialist familiar with this construction for inspection or service.
- Originality: Compare the dial, crown and crystal with reliable documentation, and ask whether any parts have been replaced or refinished.
- Condition and records: Request service history and available paperwork. A vintage chronometer description does not establish current running condition.
These checks help frame an assessment; the source article does not provide a comparable-sales dataset or a current valuation for the reference.

OMEGA’s press-room archive lists an October 14, 2019 announcement of an official Certificate of Authenticity for vintage timepieces. It is a possible official referral when assessing a particular watch, but the archive listing does not establish whether reference 137.0001 is currently eligible or specify present terms, cost, turnaround or geographic availability. Fratello’s model article cites A Journey Through Time for the rarity and dial description. The book can provide historical context, but it does not authenticate an individual watch.
