Can the sale be described as a profit or loss?
No reliable conclusion about profit or loss follows from the published figures. AOL and the Times of India report an approximate 2001 purchase price of $1.4 million, while CityRealty reports $8.4 million. No primary deed or property record resolving that disagreement was reviewed, so neither purchase-price figure should be treated as settled.
Corcoran listing broker Steve Gold characterized the sale price as a “value buy,” telling Gimme Shelter he had sold “north of $5,000 a square foot nearby,” as reported by AOL. That is the broker’s own comparison, not an independent appraisal of Evangelista’s penthouse or a market-wide statistic.
