The 2022 Longines Ultra-Chron Diver re-edition pairs a design inspired by the 1968 Ultra-Chron Diver with a modern high-frequency automatic movement. Its headline specification is 36,000 vibrations per hour—10 beats per second—but that beat rate is not itself an accuracy rating. This guide covers the watch’s specifications, launch configurations and how its historical prices compare with the current US listing.
Longines Ultra-Chron 1968 vs 2022
Longines announced the re-edition on 31 May 2022, describing it as inspired by the 1968 Ultra-Chron Diver. The brand says the 1968 model was the first dive watch equipped with a high-frequency movement; that historical superlative is Longines’ claim. The new watch continues the high-beat theme in a contemporary diver rather than simply reproducing the original.

In its announcement, Longines described the new watch as “ticking at 10 beats a second.” That corresponds to 36,000 vibrations per hour. A high beat rate describes how often the movement oscillates; it does not, by itself, establish how accurately a particular watch keeps time. Longines separately describes the current family as chronometer-certified. The brand’s phrase “more accurate than a chronometer” is promotional language, not a quantified independent accuracy result.

References, straps and box editions
The reference number identifies the launch configuration. Monochrome’s 2022 listing describes four versions:
Rank #2
- Automatic L888 movement, hours, minutes, seconds and date Screw-down case back
- Stainless steel with double safety folding clasp
- 5 Year International Warranty
| Reference | Launch configuration |
|---|---|
| L2.836.4.52.2 | Brown leather strap |

| L2.836.4.52.9 | Steel bracelet plus an additional black NATO strap made from recycled material; box edition |
Check the exact reference and the market listing when assessing a particular watch: the NATO strap is an extra supplied with the two box-edition references, not a feature to assume comes with every Ultra-Chron Diver.

The 36,000-vibrations-per-hour movement is the re-edition’s defining technical distinction, but it should not be treated as a promise of a particular daily timekeeping tolerance. Longines lists a silicon balance spring and describes the family as resistant to magnetic fields; the sources cited here do not provide a quantified independent accuracy test.
Rank #4
- Automatic L888 Movement, Hours, minutes, seconds, and date. Screw-down case back
- Brown Leather strap with buckle
- 5 Year International Warranty
Longines specifies 30-bar water resistance for the US leather reference. That is a manufacturer specification, not a substitute for checking the watch’s condition, crown security or service status before water use. The 43 mm case is a concrete sizing consideration; wrist fit depends on the wearer, and the cited specifications do not establish a universally best strap or configuration.
