The modern Longines Ultra-Chron Diver brings back the high-beat idea in a 43 mm dive-watch design: reference L2.836.4.52.6 runs at 36,000 vibrations per hour, has a silicon balance-spring and offers up to 52 hours of power reserve. Longines ties the watch to its 1968 Ultra-Chron Diver; its separate 40 mm Ultra-Chron Classic keeps the high-beat movement but adds a date and is rated to 5 bar rather than the Diver’s 30 bar.
What makes the Ultra-Chron a high-beat watch?
Longines specifies a frequency of 36,000 vibrations per hour for the automatic movement in the Ultra-Chron Diver. That is the central high-beat feature: the movement is designed to oscillate at a faster rate than many conventional mechanical movements. Longines also lists a monocrystalline silicon balance-spring and a power reserve of up to 52 hours for this reference. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements of accuracy or performance. Longines’ US product page for L2.836.4.52.6

Longines’ launch announcement, dated 31 May 2022, described the new watch as “more accurate than a chronometer” and noted that it ticks at 10 beats a second. The release does not establish the test conditions or scope behind that accuracy comparison, so it should be read as Longines’ launch claim rather than a universal or independently verified performance result. What is the modern Ultra-Chron Diver?
The specific watch is reference L2.836.4.52.6: a 43 mm stainless-steel model with a black dial and steel bracelet. Longines lists a sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating, a screw-in crown and a unidirectional rotating bezel. The product listing specifies 30 bar water resistance and does not list a date display. Longines product specifications

The 30 bar figure is Longines’ stated water-resistance specification. It does not, by itself, establish independent dive certification or a particular practical diving standard; the cited product information does not document such certification or testing.
How does the Diver differ from the Ultra-Chron Classic?
The Ultra-Chron Classic is a separate model, not simply the Diver in a smaller case. The cited Classic reference is L2.937.4.72.6, with a 40 mm case, silver dial, steel bracelet and date. Longines lists the same 36,000-vibrations-per-hour automatic movement specification, silicon balance-spring and up to 52 hours of power reserve, but rates the Classic to 5 bar. Longines’ listed specifications do not position this Classic reference as a dive watch. Longines’ US product page for L2.937.4.72.6

Longines says it launched the Ultra-Chron Diver in 1968 and describes that model as the first dive watch equipped with a high-frequency movement. That “first” is the manufacturer’s historical claim. Longines places the Diver within a longer high-frequency history, saying it developed its first high-frequency wristwatch movement—an observatory chronometer—in 1959. The modern watch’s launch announcement followed on 31 May 2022. Longines’ historical and launch account
