Its record-setting reference, LM-135.50.CO, is a unique 18K red-gold watch that the maker now lists as sold; other Cosmopolis editions are separate models, not evidence that this piece is available.
How the Cosmopolis dial uses twelve meteorites
Rather than making the whole dial from meteorite, Louis Moinet uses black aventurine as the base and mounts meteorite fragments in a layered arrangement. The maker says ten fragments sit on separate bases attached to the dial, a lunar fragment occupies the center, and a black chondrite is positioned behind the tourbillon cage.
Louis Moinet names the twelve specimens as:
- Dhofar 461
- Dhofar 1674
- Allende
- Erg Chech
- Jbilet Winselwan
- Isheyevo
- Aletai, formerly called Armenty
- Aguas Zarcas
- Gibeon
- Toluca
- Sahara 97093
- A black chondrite L5
The manufacturer describes Dhofar 461 as a lunar meteorite found in Oman and Dhofar 1674 as a Martian meteorite found in Oman. Its product page also supplies discovery locations and origin descriptions for the other named specimens; those provenance details are Louis Moinet’s attributions.
What the watch displays and how it is built
The hours and minutes appear on a subdial at six o’clock, alongside the off-center flying tourbillon. The hand-wound LM135 manufacture calibre uses two barrels in what Louis Moinet calls a “volte-face” arrangement and is specified with a 96-hour power reserve.

What record did Cosmopolis receive?
On September 21, 2023, Guinness World Records adjudicator Seyda Subaci-Gemici presented the watch with the title “Most meteorite inserts in a watch” in Geneva, according to the Federation of the Swiss Watch Industry. Guinness lists a record page for the category. This is the title awarded to Cosmopolis on that date, not a claim that it remains the category’s current record-holder.
Louis Moinet founder Jean-Marie Schaller said: “I’ve been collecting exceptional meteorites for twenty years. Each has its own story.”
