The acquisition added a specialist clockmaking business to a luxury group whose maisons span several crafts. That is a reasonable description of the capability brought into the portfolio; the published materials cited here do not state a more specific strategic motive for the deal.
How did L’Epée develop from watch components to clocks?
Founded in 1839, the company’s history began with watch components and music boxes. It later made carriage clocks and eventually focused on exclusive clocks, as recounted by the Federation of the Swiss Watch Industry. LVMH’s 2025 Universal Registration Document describes L’Epée revisiting the Swiss cuckoo clock, evidence of continuing creative activity after the acquisition. The report supports saying that the maison continued developing clock projects; it does not, by itself, establish a broader integration plan or explain how the acquisition changed its operations.

The federation reported that more than 80 designers, engineers, watchmakers, mechanics and other employees worked alongside CEO and Creative Director Arnaud Nicolas in its 2024 account. That is a figure from that article, not a current staffing count.
