Despite the assignment’s “Hands-On” wording, this assessment is based on published specifications and the brands’ descriptions, not physical inspection. Comfort, legibility in use, accuracy and long-term reliability cannot be established from those sources.
What is the Masterpiece Skeleton Label Noir?
Maurice Lacroix announced the watch on 19 March 2024 as a partnership with Label Noir. Label Noir identifies its own product-page reference as LN_ML02; the Maurice Lacroix reference is MP7228-DLB04-090-2. The edition is limited to 288 pieces, according to the Maurice Lacroix product page and its 2024 announcement.
The collaboration’s visual premise is contrast: a dark-coated case and movement set against lighter details, with the skeleton construction bringing components normally concealed beneath a dial into view. Maurice Lacroix names the gear train, mainspring, balance wheel, hairspring, pallet lever and escape wheel among the visible parts. These are the manufacturer’s descriptions, rather than findings from an independent inspection.

What movement is inside?
The watch uses Maurice Lacroix’s manually wound manufacture ML134 movement. The brand specifies hours, minutes and seconds, a 45-hour power reserve, a frequency of 18,000 vibrations per hour and 19 jewels. Its listed finish includes PVD plating, Grand Colimaçon decoration, a sand-blasted main bridge and polished bridge edges.
Manual winding makes the wearer’s daily interaction part of the ownership experience: the movement must be wound by hand to keep running. The listed reserve is the stated running time when fully wound, not a guarantee of exact real-world performance. Maurice Lacroix says the movement is produced and the watch finally assembled in its own workshops; that is the company’s claim.

How large is it, and what is the case made of?
Maurice Lacroix gives the case dimensions as 43 mm in diameter and 13 mm high. It is stainless steel with a gunmetal DLC coating and a mix of brushed and polished surfaces. Those are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements. A 43 mm diameter is a substantial footprint for a dress-oriented openworked watch, while the stated 13 mm height is a relevant fit consideration for cuffs; actual wrist presence and comfort depend on wrist shape and were not physically assessed here.
The front is covered by sapphire crystal with double anti-reflective coating. The open case back also uses sapphire glass with anti-reflective coating, allowing the movement to be viewed from both sides.

Is the exposed movement practical to read?
The openworked layout is primarily a visual feature: it turns the movement into the focal point rather than presenting a conventional, uninterrupted dial. Maurice Lacroix says the keyless works, motion works and gear train are freely shown. The hour, minute and seconds functions are specified, but the available product descriptions do not establish how quickly or easily the hands can be read in everyday lighting. That would require viewing the watch in person.
What are the water resistance, strap and clasp details?
Maurice Lacroix specifies water resistance of 5 ATM. That rating is the published specification; it does not by itself establish a particular swimming or diving recommendation, so check the manufacturer’s current guidance before exposing the watch to water.

The listed strap is black nylon with Maurice Lacroix branding, fitted with a butterfly buckle in black DLC-plated stainless steel. The official listing says the watch has no easy-change system, so strap swaps are not presented as a tool-free operation.

That listing does not establish the final price or identical warranty terms for every buyer. What does the limited edition mean?
The production quantity is 288 pieces, as stated by Maurice Lacroix in 2024 and on its product page. The number describes the edition size; it does not establish current availability, resale value or future collectability. Buyers should confirm stock and applicable terms with the seller before ordering.
Who should consider this watch?
The strongest case for the Masterpiece Skeleton Label Noir is its combination of a dark, collaborative design and a manually wound movement presented as part of the display. It may appeal to someone who wants the mechanics to dominate the watch’s visual identity and is comfortable with hand winding. The 43 mm case, 13 mm height, 5 ATM stated resistance, fixed strap-change approach and region-dependent asking prices are practical details to weigh alongside that design.
Published specifications cannot answer how the watch feels on the wrist, whether the display suits a particular wearer’s eyesight, or how the movement performs over time. No independent accuracy, durability or water-resistance testing is established here.
