The McGonigle Ogma is a manually wound luxury watch from independent watchmaker McGonigle Watches, presented by the maker as the successor to its Tuscar. Its defining features are a fully in-house movement, a dial-side 90-hour power-reserve display and a hand-engraved barrel bridge inspired by Irish mythology and Ogham. The first reported production series comprised 20 tantalum watches and was sold out before its unveiling; that launch status does not establish whether the Ogma is available now.

What is the McGonigle Ogma?

McGonigle Watches describes the Ogma as a fully in-house mechanical watch and the successor to the Tuscar. The maker says development of the Ogma’s mechanism took more than three years. The brand describes its approach as Swiss engineering with Irish design, and says it was established in 2006. McGonigle Watches: Ogma · McGonigle Watches: About

The Ogma’s cultural reference is also part of its construction, not just its name. McGonigle says artist Frances McGonigle collaborated on the hand engraving of the barrel bridge. The maker explains the design as a representation of Ogma, an Irish mythological god associated with eloquence and invention, and credited in that account with creating the Ogham alphabet. This is the brand’s explanation of its design inspiration.

What movement is in the Ogma?

Specialist watch publication Time+Tide identifies the manually wound movement as the McG01. The maker calls the mechanism fully in-house and says its development took over three years. Its 90-hour power reserve is indicated on the dial, so the reserve can be read without opening the watch. McGonigle Watches: Ogma · Time+Tide: McGonigle Ogma

Prototype photos and the first production series

Steel Ogma images shown at launch depict a prototype, not the first production version. Time+Tide reported that the initial production series was made in tantalum. That distinction matters when interpreting launch photography or descriptions of the watch’s case material. Time+Tide

How much did the McGonigle Ogma cost, and is it available?

Time+Tide reported that the first series consisted of 20 tantalum pieces priced at CHF 79,000 and had sold out before the unveiling. How the Ogma follows the Tuscar

The maker identifies the Ogma as the Tuscar’s successor, but the available specifications do not provide a like-for-like comparison of the two watches. The Ogma’s reported dimensions, reserve, display and first-series material can be described on their own; they should not be treated as proof of how the Tuscar differs in those areas.
