But “best value Swiss GMT around” is a subjective verdict, not a verified current market ranking. That phrase appeared in a Time+Tide review published on 14 June 2021; whether it still holds depends on the exact reference, local price and availability, and the alternatives you are considering.
What the Ocean Star GMT offers
Mido’s product pages describe the Ocean Star GMT as an automatic watch with GMT and date functions, up to 80 hours of power reserve, and 20 bar (200 m) water resistance. The collection includes watches of different sizes and configurations, so those headline specifications do not make every reference identical.

These are Mido’s international-page figures, not universal street prices. The 44 mm reference is also listed on Mido’s US site, which gives the same core specifications; check the US product page for local details. Specifications, price and stock should be confirmed for the exact reference and region before purchase.

How its GMT display works
Mido describes the GMT hand as making one revolution every 24 hours. Used with the bezel’s 24-hour graduations, it can indicate a second time zone. That is the manufacturer’s description; the pages cited here do not establish how quickly or conveniently the watch’s local time can be adjusted compared with competing GMT movements.
Where the “best value” claim comes from
Time+Tide’s Thor Svaboe used the headline “OK, calling it: Mido Ocean Star GMT is the best value Swiss GMT around” in a review published on 14 June 2021. The review praised the 44 mm watch’s 200 m water resistance, ceramic bezel, GMT function, sapphire crystal and 80-hour power reserve in the context of its price segment at that time. This is an attributed editorial assessment, not an objective category award or proof of today’s market position.

Time+Tide’s 2021 assessment is useful as a historical point of view, but it cannot settle a 2026 buying decision on its own. The official Mido pages provide product specifications and regional recommended prices; they do not compare the Ocean Star GMT with the full current field of Swiss GMT watches. No market-wide statistic establishes it as today’s best-value option. Read the original assessment at Time+Tide.

- Fit: Compare case diameter and try the watch on if possible. The cited models are 40.5 mm and 44 mm, a meaningful difference on the wrist.
- GMT use: Check how each watch indicates a second time zone and how easily you can set local time. Mido explains its 24-hour hand and graduated bezel, but the cited material does not establish a comparative advantage in setting convenience.
- Practical specification: Compare water resistance and power reserve, along with materials and crystal treatment. Mido lists 200 m and up to 80 hours for these references; do not assume those figures make another model less suitable without considering how you will use it.
- Wear setup: The cited 40.5 mm reference has a textile strap and 21 mm lugs; the cited 44 mm bracelet references have 22 mm lugs. Strap compatibility depends on the specific watch.
- Total purchase terms: Compare current local price, stock, seller and warranty—not a regional RRP against a different model’s promotional or out-of-stock listing.
A retailer listing surfaced at $1,490 for a black 44 mm bracelet version, but it included out-of-stock variants and is not a verified current offer. It should not be treated as a current price for the blue-dial models above. See the retailer listing for its own listing details.

The Ocean Star GMT’s published combination of GMT and date functions, up to 80 hours of reserve, and 200 m water resistance gives it a substantiated feature-based value case. The broader “best value Swiss GMT around” label remains an opinion rooted in a 2021 review. Treat it as a shortlist candidate, then decide using the precise reference’s fit, current regional price, availability and terms alongside comparable watches.
