His pieces are scale collectibles, not timepieces. They are built to look like specific watches at 1:5 or 1:6 scale, and they do not tick or tell time. Jones describes the central challenge as redesigning every part of a watch so that its details still read clearly at that size.
Who Robbie Jones is
According to Rhonda Riche’s profile in Watchonista, published October 8, 2026, Jones is based in Portland, Oregon. The same profile says he has worked in the stop-motion props department at Laika Studios and that he is also a theater professor. Those are the details Watchonista reports; they are not drawn from an official biography.
Jones told Watchonista that he made things as a child in his parents’ garage and had access to hand tools through his grandfather, a contractor. He describes coming to theater because he wanted to make things, and says theater gave him resources, materials, money, and facilities. These are his own recollections as reported by Watchonista, and they have not been independently verified.
What Tiny Ass Props makes
Tiny Ass Props makes miniature replicas of wristwatches, many of them tied to film and television. The published profiles describe one-sixth and one-fifth scale pieces made for action figures and collectors. Watchonista’s account also says limited batches are sold and that popular items often sell out. The table below separates what each profile reports and when.

The function question matters most for buyers. A Tiny Ass Props piece is a display object that reproduces the look of a watch, sized to sit on a figure’s wrist or in a collection. It is not a small working watch, and it should not be bought as one.
How the business started
Tiny Ass Props grew out of Jones making miniature watches for the doll and figure community. He told Watchonista that he saw a gap in watch accessories compared with the other props available for figures.

The first miniature watch he describes making came from a commission linked to Breaking Bad. The buyer wanted Walter White’s TAG Heuer Monaco. Jones says he had been developing his CAD 3D-modeling skills at the time and chose the Monaco partly because its geometry looked interesting to model. The commission set the template for much of the work: a recognizable watch from screen culture, rebuilt for a figure.
How the models are made
Jones’s process combines digital modeling, 3D printing, and hand finishing. The published profiles describe the broad stages below. They do not name the printers, resins, or software he uses, and none of those brands should be read as his equipment.
Rank #3
- SCALE: Precisely crafted 1:4 scale miniature camera, perfect for dollhouse displays and collecting enthusiasts
- DESIGN: Vintage-style digital camera model with authentic detailing and realistic appearance
- VERSATILE USE: Ideal for photography props, decorative displays, miniature scenes, and artistic arrangements
- DECORATIVE PIECE: Beautiful ornamental accessory that adds charm to any miniature display or collection
- COLLECTOR'S ITEM: Makes an excellent addition to dollhouse decor and miniature photography-themed collections
- Model the watch in CAD. Jones builds a digital version of the watch. Time+Tide’s November 1, 2022 profile says a new 3D model can take him at least five days, and that adjustments are required so that tiny details become visible.
- Print the parts. The models are produced on a 3D printer, and Jones also works with resin, according to the profiles.
- Choose how to paint them. For a simple finish, a solid printed model can be painted as one piece. For other treatments, Jones prints the individual parts separately, paints them, and then assembles the watch. Separating the parts gives him access to surfaces that would otherwise be hidden under paint.
The steps are not a fixed recipe. The five-day figure is from a 2022 account and describes one model at that time; it is not a production schedule for the work today.
Why shrinking a watch is harder than scaling it
Jones describes the translation problem as more than reducing a real watch. Fine details must remain legible at 1:6 scale, and some designs do not translate well at all. He says of the work: “Every watch I create brings with it its own challenges.” He has to decide which details to exaggerate, which to simplify, and which to remove so the watch still reads correctly from a short distance.

- Dimensions:1.77 in (4.5 cm) L, 1.18 in (3 cm) W, 2.36 in (6 cm) H
- Quantity: A set per box. Materials: Wood
- The product is a miniature model and is not suitable for individuals under the age of 15.
One example he gives is an open, skeletal Breguet design. Its visible internal structure required multiple image layers, which makes it a clear case of a design that depends on precise reconstruction rather than a simple reduction. Watchonista does not describe the exact workflow for that model, so the example illustrates the difficulty rather than a documented method.
Jones connects the work to watchmaking itself. Asked about that link, he said: “The precision required by watchmakers, I feel like, was an area that I could appreciate specifically in the way in which I work.” What he finds most rewarding is the problem-solving: “Development, problem-solving, that’s the most rewarding.”

What collectors should know before buying
- Treat the pieces as scale collectibles. They replicate watch appearance and do not function as timepieces.
- Check the scale. The published profiles describe 1:6 and 1:5 pieces. Confirm the scale of any item against your figure before purchase.
- Treat prices as historical. The $50–$55 range comes from Watchonista’s October 8, 2026 profile and describes limited batches. Current prices and stock were not verified for this article.
- Expect limited availability. Batches are limited and popular items sell out, so a listing may not be available when you look for it.
- Verify the store directly. Watchonista reports that Tiny Ass Props has a store. The store’s live catalog, shipping, and purchasing terms could not be confirmed for this article.
The published profiles do not provide a complete catalog or a breakdown of availability by scale, so this article does not offer a product comparison. For the artist’s own account of how he works, the Watchonista interview is the most current source, and Time+Tide’s 2022 profile remains useful for background on his making process.
In short, Robbie Jones is a Portland-based artist who turns recognizable watches from film and television into 1:5 and 1:6 display replicas for figure collectors. The craft lies in what he removes and keeps: each model is a simplified watch that still reads as the original.
