AMT narrows the gap between a standard supplier movement and a fully in-house caliber, but only for brands that can meet its volume threshold. It offers modified versions of established architectures rather than a blank-sheet design. Worn & Wound reports that AMT’s third-party catalog is small and nonpublic and that its minimum order quantity is 1,000 pieces. That makes AMT a realistic option for established independent brands with planned production, and a poor fit for very small makers.
What AMT is
Manufacture AMT (Advanced Mechanical Technology) is a watch-movement operation that Worn & Wound describes as Sellita-owned but separately operated. Its approach is to take familiar movement architectures and change selected parts: the winding system, the complication set, the finishing, or the dimensions. The brand buying the movement gets a recognizable base with a more distinct specification than a catalog movement sold unchanged.
Where AMT sits between the two options
The useful comparison is against the two extremes a brand normally weighs: buying a standard third-party movement, or funding a complete caliber in-house. The table below sets out how AMT differs on the factors that matter when choosing.
| Factor | Standard third-party movement | AMT third-party caliber | Fully in-house caliber |
|---|---|---|---|
| Development burden | Low: select from the supplier’s existing range | Moderate: select and modify an existing architecture | High: the brand funds a new caliber from the ground up |
| Distinctiveness | Limited to standard specifications; differentiation mostly through case and dial | Revised components, complications, finishing and specifications within an established base | Full control over architecture, specifications and construction |
| Volume and access | Not stated in the Worn & Wound report | Small, nonpublic catalog; minimum order quantity reported by Worn & Wound | Set by the brand’s own production plan |
| Technical fit | Fixed to the supplier’s published specifications | Dimensions, winding type, frequency and reserve vary by family (see the table below) | Specified to the brand’s own brief |
| Economics | Not stated in the Worn & Wound report | No comparable cost data reported; confirm pricing and terms with AMT | Development, tooling and inventory commitment sit entirely with the brand; no cost figures are reported for comparison |
The practical difference is that AMT shifts the development burden without giving the brand a completely proprietary movement. The brand still works within an architecture someone else designed and still depends on AMT for supply and service.

Reported caliber families
The figures below are Worn & Wound’s reported descriptions of AMT calibers, not independent laboratory measurements. “Not stated” means the report gives no figure for that cell.
| Family | Base or architecture (as reported) | Thickness | Diameter | Power reserve | Frequency | Notable features |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| AMT2000 / AMT2000M | Based on the SW200-2 family; keeps the gear train, escapement, size, frequency and 65-hour reserve | 3.35 mm (M version, hand-wound) | Not stated | 65 hours | Retained from the base; no figure stated | Different winding arrangement; skeleton and complication options |
| AMT3000 | Based on the SW300, with a smaller rotor bearing | Not stated | Not stated | Not stated | Not stated | Complication options |
| AMT5000 / AMT5000M | Chronograph family | Not stated; AMT5138 is 8.4 mm | Not stated | Not stated | Not stated | Column wheel and flyback features; automatic and manual configurations; different subdial layouts. AMT5138 is an automatic flyer GMT chronograph |
| AMT6600 / AMT6900 | Hand-wound, three-hand movements derived from the AMT5000 architecture | 4.3 mm | 30 mm | 63 hours | 28,800 beats per hour | Used by Havid Nagan (AMT6600) and Bremont (AMT6900) |
| AMT7000 | Not stated | 4.6 mm | 30 mm | 84 hours | 28,800 beats per hour | 30 jewels; two bearings; date, day-date and GMT versions planned for January 2027 (a future launch claim) |
| AMT8000 | Manual-winding movement with four barrels | 6.45 mm | 30 mm | 10 days | Not stated | Version with a dial-side power-reserve display |
Sellita’s own site independently describes its SW200-2 Power+ as a re-engineered evolution of the SW200-1 with a 65-hour power reserve. That confirms the base figure only. The AMT-specific figures in the table rest on Worn & Wound’s reporting and should be checked against AMT’s current technical sheets. AMT also reportedly describes a 10-year service interval for the AMT7000; that is AMT’s stated claim and has not been independently verified.

Who this suits
- Established brands with planned production that can meet AMT’s reported minimum order quantity across the caliber they choose.
- Brands that want a distinct specification, such as a particular complication, winding type or dimension set, without funding a new caliber.
- Brands wanting full ownership of the movement should look at in-house development instead. AMT’s offer is a modified supplier architecture, not a proprietary design.
- Small makers and limited runs are unlikely to clear the threshold, and a small nonpublic catalog limits what they could select even if they did.
Named examples
Worn & Wound reports that Hanhart, Oak & Oscar and Furlan Marri have used the AMT5000. It also cites Havid Nagan’s use of the AMT6600, and Bremont’s use of the AMT6900 as the base for a perpetual calendar GMT. These show the movements have reached real watches, but they do not prove that any of these models is currently available or still uses the same caliber designation. Check current product pages before naming a specific watch.
Verifying AMT before a sourcing decision
- Contact AMT directly to confirm the current minimum order quantity and whether its catalog is open to your brand.
- Request the current technical sheet for the exact caliber you are considering, and check thickness, reserve and frequency against the figures above.
- Confirm whether the caliber is in production or still planned. Treat the AMT7000 date and GMT versions as unconfirmed until AMT states them.
- Ask AMT to state the service interval and service path in writing, rather than relying on the 10-year figure.
- Ask for pricing, development terms and supply-continuity commitments. No comparable cost data has been reported.
Two naming points also matter. AMT5000 and AMT5000M are separate configurations, and the AMT2000 and AMT2000M differ in winding. Specify the exact variant in every quote and datasheet.

Verdict
AMT is a genuine middle path. It gives established brands a distinct movement built on a familiar architecture, with the development burden shared rather than carried entirely by the brand. It does not close the gap completely: access is limited by a small nonpublic catalog and a reported 1,000-piece minimum, the ownership of the design stays with AMT, and the commercial terms still need to be confirmed directly. For brands that clear those conditions, it is the most practical way to get more distinction than a catalog movement without building a caliber from scratch.
