What is the Ressence Type 9?
The Type 9 is Ressence’s stripped-back take on its orbital display, built around hours and minutes rather than a conventional array of subdials. Ressence describes it as “indicating only hours and minutes.” The minute indication is engraved around a fixed outer bezel, while the hour indication moves on an eccentric satellite within the dial. Super-LumiNova-filled indications help with day-and-night legibility.
Ressence’s press center dates the core Type 9 A and G to 2024. The Grey and Aqua models were introduced on 28 November 2024 as the brand’s first 39 mm watch, building on the minimalist principles and technology of the Type 8. The “all-new” launch language should not be read as a 2026 debut: Ressence lists later editions separately, including Type 9 S75 and The Armoury in 2025, and JWE/JWB in 2026. How does the orbital display work?
The patented Ressence Orbital Convex System, or ROCS 9, drives the Type 9’s rotating display. Ressence says the system is driven by the minute axle of a customized and reinforced 2892/2 base calibre. Instead of reading time from conventional fixed hands, the hour satellite travels across the dial while the minute indication is read against the engraved indexes around the perimeter.

The effect is a continuously changing display rather than a conventional dial layout. On the JWB listing, Ressence specifies a self-winding movement with a 36-hour power reserve, 28,800 vibrations per hour, 20 gears, 31 jewels and four ball bearings. How do you wind and set the Type 9?
The Type 9 does not use a conventional crown. Ressence’s JWB product page says winding and setting are done through the caseback and notes manual winding over 12 degrees. Because the caseback is the control point, follow the instructions supplied for the exact reference rather than assuming a familiar crown-setting procedure.

Type 9 Grey and Aqua vs. JWB
Ressence’s current overview lists standard Grey and Aqua options alongside other Type 9 editions. The JWB is a distinct later limited edition; its finish, listed specifications and displayed price should not be transferred to the standard models.

The higher JWB listing price reflects a different edition, but price alone is not evidence of functional superiority. Confirm the reference and its current specifications before deciding between finishes or editions.

Can you replace the Type 9 strap?
Ressence lists a 20/18 mm strap width for the Type 9 and sells a woven synthetic Type 9 strap for €295 including VAT. The width suggests a possible replacement-strap route, but it does not establish that every third-party strap or buckle will fit.
