The Méraud Bonaire MkII is a substantial redesign of the Belgian independent brand’s 2018 dive watch, with a reshaped case, wider bezel, larger applied markers, a revised movement and an updated bracelet with on-the-fly micro-adjustment. The hands-on review behind this title was published by Daan de Groot at Fratello on December 12, 2023; it is not a new 2026 test. The current official listing gives several specifications and purchase options, with two naming differences worth noting: diameter and movement caliber.
What the 2023 hands-on review covers
Daan de Groot’s Fratello review looks at three Bonaire MkII dial versions: glossy Moss Green, sunburst Marine Blue and Gloss Black with gilt accents. After seeing them side by side and on wrist, de Groot favored the green version and praised the proportions, movement and bracelet. He summed up the redesign this way: “I can confidently say that the Méraud Bonaire MkII is a properly grown-up version of the 2018 original.” — Daan de Groot, Fratello, December 12, 2023.
That is the reviewer’s assessment, not a claim of independent comparative testing. Méraud is an independent watch company based in Belgium, and the maker says its watches are manufactured in Switzerland.
What changed from the original Bonaire
The MkII updates the original Bonaire, introduced in 2018. Fratello describes a reshaped mid-case, a wider bezel, larger applied hour markers, a new movement and a revised riveted bracelet. The bracelet adds on-the-fly micro-adjustment, allowing the wearer to fine-tune its fit without removing links. These are the review’s and maker’s descriptions of the redesign, rather than results from a controlled comparison.

- Band Type: Satin-finished stainless steel bracelet with polished central link. Folding clasp with diving extension and engraved MIDO logo. MIDO quick-change system.
The watch retains a vintage-inspired dive-watch look. Its circularly brushed 316L stainless-steel case has drilled lugs and a top-hat sapphire crystal. The unidirectional bezel has an acrylic insert with luminous markings. This makes the bezel insert a distinct material choice from the sapphire crystal protecting the dial.
Dimensions and specifications
Published dimensions differ in how they label the watch’s diameter. Fratello reports a 39 mm case and a 40 mm bezel; Méraud’s current Onyx listing calls the diameter 40 mm. The review also reports a 48.6 mm lug-to-lug length and 12.2 mm thickness. For wrist-fit comparisons, lug-to-lug length and thickness can be as useful as the headline diameter.

The sources use different movement names: Fratello identifies the caliber as La Joux-Perret G101, while Méraud’s current product and collection pages call it G100. Both report a 68-hour power reserve, 24 jewels and a frequency of 28,800 beats per hour. The available information does not establish that the two caliber names are interchangeable, so it is best to attribute the name to the source when citing it.
The watch is described as automatic, with hacking seconds, a three-hand no-date display and a 60-minute dive bezel. Méraud states 200 m / 20 ATM water resistance on its current product page. That is a published specification, not independent pressure-test evidence or a guarantee of suitability for every diving activity.

Dial options, straps and bracelet
The three reviewed dials offer noticeably different finishes: Moss Green is glossy, Marine Blue has a sunburst finish, and Gloss Black is paired with gilt accents. Méraud’s current Onyx listing offers a Tropic rubber strap or a riveted bracelet. The bracelet’s micro-adjustment is a convenience option; the rubber configuration offers a different wearing setup and changes the listed purchase price.
Méraud specifies a 20 mm lug width and drilled lugs, so 20 mm straps are the relevant starting point for strap changes. Before buying a third-party strap, verify the end fit, attachment method and buckle dimensions; a nominal lug width alone does not establish compatibility with every strap.

Who should pay attention to the fit and design details
The 48.6 mm lug-to-lug measurement is a practical point of comparison for anyone assessing fit. Consider it alongside the reported 12.2 mm thickness and the differing diameter conventions: Fratello’s 39 mm case measurement versus Méraud’s 40 mm diameter listing. No single dimension predicts fit on every wrist.
The Bonaire MkII’s character also depends on details that specifications do not reduce to a single number: the glossy or sunburst dial finish, the gilt accents on black, the acrylic luminous-marked bezel insert, and the choice between rubber and a riveted bracelet. A comparison with another dive watch should use like-for-like dimensions and configurations, as well as movement attribution, stated water resistance, warranty and the total current price. The available sources do not establish that the MkII outperforms any particular competitor.
