Yes—Meta did release display-equipped Ray-Ban glasses. The December 23, 2024 report said a model could arrive in the second half of 2025. Meta later announced Meta Ray-Ban Display in September 2025 and began U.S. sales on September 30, 2025. It is a premium pair of AI glasses with a small, full-color display in the right lens and a bundled Meta Neural Band—not a full augmented-reality headset.
What the 2024 report actually claimed
The original story was a forecast, not a product announcement. Reporting relayed by 9to5Mac said Meta was working with EssilorLuxottica, Ray-Ban’s parent company, on glasses with a small in-lens screen that could arrive in the second half of 2025. The expected uses were notifications and responses from Meta’s assistant.
That report did not establish a final product name, display resolution, field of view, battery rating, or retail price. “Next year” meant 2025 when the article was published on December 23, 2024; it should not be read as a current release prediction. Read the original report.
What Meta launched
Meta announced Meta Ray-Ban Display at Connect in September 2025. In the United States, sales began September 30, 2025, initially through selected Best Buy, LensCrafters, Sunglass Hut, and Ray-Ban stores. Meta said Canada, France, Italy, and the United Kingdom were planned for early 2026, but availability still varies by country, prescription, color, and retailer. Check the official Ray-Ban product page for current ordering options.

The announced U.S. starting price was $799, including the glasses and Meta Neural Band. Prescription lenses, lens upgrades, tax, and retailer charges can raise the final total. Meta and EssilorLuxottica also confirmed that customers could order the glasses with their own prescription; verify the supported prescription range and lens choices before buying (EssilorLuxottica announcement).
What the display can show
Ray-Ban lists a 600 × 600-pixel, full-color display in the right lens. It is intended for short, glanceable information rather than long reading or video. Officially described examples include:
Rank #2
- Frame Type Full Rim
- Not Polarized
- Product Dimensions 50 - 22 - 150
- Frames have a direct impact on your face shape - to give balance and proportions to the face, the frame shape should be in contrast with the face shape. This Square model looks best on Oval-Round faces
- Visual answers and feedback from Meta AI.
- Notifications and short message-related information.
- Navigation-related prompts.
- Album art, other media imagery, and book covers.
The display can reduce the need to hear every answer aloud, while the glasses’ speakers and phone companion app remain part of the experience. The product page details the visual examples at Ray-Ban; Meta’s launch description explains the display-and-wristband system at Meta Newsroom.
What the display is not
Meta Ray-Ban Display is more capable visually than screenless smart glasses, but it is not equivalent to full-field spatial AR. The evidence supports a small, single-eye display—not binocular imagery, room-scale overlays, or the broad field of view demonstrated by Meta’s Orion prototype.

It also is not a phone replacement. Short AI responses, prompts, notifications, and navigation cues are plausible phone-reducing functions; detailed documents, extended browsing, complex forms, and ordinary video viewing still belong on a phone, tablet, computer, or XR headset.
How the Meta Neural Band works
The included wristband detects subtle electrical signals associated with hand and finger movements and converts them into controls for the glasses. It can provide gesture input without reaching for a phone. “Neural” here describes an electromyography-style interface; it is not thought reading or mind control.

Because the band was included in the original $799 package, it is part of the product’s interaction model rather than merely an optional accessory.

Battery claims and practical limitations
Meta says the glasses provide up to six hours of mixed use and up to 30 hours with the charging case. Ray-Ban’s product page also says up to six hours per charge but lists up to 24 hours with the case. These are manufacturer “up to” figures, not independent tests, and usage such as recording, calls, display brightness, AI requests, and network conditions affects results. Treat the two case totals as an unresolved specification discrepancy rather than silently combining them.
- Small viewing area: suitable for glanceable prompts, not long text.
- Premium cost: the price covers the display, additional electronics, and wristband, not simply a newer camera.
- Prescription and fit: confirm prescription range, lens type, Transitions support, country restrictions, and whether the display meets your visual needs.
- Privacy: cameras and microphones remain active considerations. Learn the recording indicator and follow local laws plus workplace, school, business, and venue rules.
Who should buy it?
Good fit
- You already want camera-and-audio smart glasses and specifically value visual prompts.
- You want navigation, media information, or short AI answers without taking out a phone.
- You are comfortable with the conspicuousness and privacy responsibilities of camera-equipped eyewear.
- Your prescription and preferred frame or lens configuration are supported.
Skip it if
- You want a large field-of-view AR experience or spatial virtual screens.
- You need all-day use without recharging.
- You mainly want inexpensive camera, audio, calls, and voice AI.
- You need detailed reading, video playback, or a general-purpose phone replacement.
Other Meta glasses to consider
Meta’s June 2026 Meta Glasses line starts at $299 and is sold under Meta’s own branding rather than Ray-Ban. It is a separate, displayless product family aimed at broader access to Meta’s AI-glasses platform. Meta says pedestrian navigation is coming to those glasses, but they do not provide the in-lens display that defines Meta Ray-Ban Display. See the Meta Glasses announcement.
Standard Ray-Ban Meta remains the simpler choice for open-ear audio, camera capture, calls, messaging, and voice-based AI. Buyers who want true spatial computing should look to an XR headset or wait for future full-AR glasses instead of treating Meta Ray-Ban Display as an Orion equivalent.
Bottom line
The 2024 rumor was directionally right: Meta did put a display into Ray-Ban smart glasses. The resulting Meta Ray-Ban Display, released in 2025, is a premium single-lens visual interface paired with a gesture-sensing wristband. It is useful for brief information at a glance, but its price, battery limits, prescription constraints, privacy implications, and narrow display make it a specialized upgrade—not a complete heads-up smartphone or full augmented-reality system.
