Meta announced its Ray-Ban Display glasses on September 17, 2025, and began selling them in the United States on September 30, 2025. They start at $799 with the Meta Neural Band included. The glasses put a small, full-color display in one lens; the wristband reads muscle activity to control it. They are display-equipped AI glasses, not a full augmented-reality headset.
What Meta announced
Meta introduced Meta Ray-Ban Display at Meta Connect on September 17, 2025, in partnership with Ray-Ban maker EssilorLuxottica. The product adds a visual display and a new wrist-based control method to the camera, audio and AI features associated with Meta’s glasses. Meta’s announcement positioned it as a new category in its glasses lineup.
It is not the same as ordinary Ray-Ban Meta glasses, which do not have an in-lens display, and it is not equivalent to Meta’s Orion augmented-reality prototype. The Display model uses a compact, one-eye screen for brief, glanceable information rather than a large immersive or holographic view.
What the display shows
The right lens contains a full-color, 600×600-pixel monocular display with an approximately 20-degree field of view, according to the Ray-Ban product page. It is intended to stay unobtrusive when not in use. Its limited viewing area is better suited to short prompts, cards and directions than to reading long messages or replacing a phone screen.

Depending on supported features and services, the display can show message previews, photos, music information, walking directions, translations, captions and visual information from Meta AI. Spoken AI responses can come through the glasses’ open-ear speakers; selected information can instead appear in the lens. These are distinct ways to receive an answer, not a promise that every voice response will also be displayed.
How the Neural Band works
The Meta Neural Band is an EMG wristband: it senses electrical activity associated with muscle movements and interprets intentional finger or wrist gestures. It does not read thoughts or create a brain-computer interface. The band is included with the glasses, provides haptic feedback and is offered in sizes 1, 2 and 3.
It is one of three control routes. The wearer can use subtle gestures detected by the band, physical touch controls on the glasses, or voice commands such as “Hey Meta.” Meta has also promoted neural handwriting, in which small finger movements can be used to enter queries or messages. An August 2026 report described this as an early-access rollout, so access may depend on account, region and software rollout; see Android Central’s report.
What you can do with the glasses
Messages and quick replies
Meta and Ray-Ban describe support for displaying and replying to messages from WhatsApp, Messenger and Instagram, as well as connected-phone messaging functions. The exact services and controls available can vary with software, account and region.

Directions and translation
The glasses can show walking directions and a visual map, while selected language features can provide live captions or real-time translation. “Phone-free” describes the interaction—the wearer need not keep looking at a handset—not a fully independent device. The official requirements include a compatible smartphone, and language and service availability varies by region and software.
Meta AI and media
Meta AI can answer questions about the wearer’s surroundings and provide contextual help. Responses may be spoken through the speakers, shown as visual information, or both depending on the function. The display can also show music cards and album art; the glasses have open-ear stereo speakers and microphones for audio and voice interaction.
Camera
Ray-Ban lists a 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera with 3× zoom, still images up to 3024×4032 pixels and video up to 1440×1920 at 30 frames per second. The listed 32 GB of flash storage is described as enough for more than 100 30-second videos or over 500 photos. These are manufacturer specifications and capacity estimates, not guarantees of the number of files any particular wearer can store.

The battery figures are manufacturer estimates. Ray-Ban’s current listing says up to six hours for the glasses, up to 24 additional hours from the case and up to 18 hours for the band. Meta’s September 2025 launch announcement instead described up to 30 hours total with the case; for current buying comparisons, use the retailer’s present 24-hour case figure and treat Meta’s 30-hour figure as announcement-era information. Display brightness, camera recording, audio, AI use, wireless connectivity, temperature and software settings can all affect actual runtime.

At approximately 68 grams, the frame is heavy compared with ordinary eyewear. That matters more in daily wear than a small difference in camera resolution: the display needs to line up with the wearer’s eye, and the band needs a comfortable, secure fit for gesture recognition. If possible, try the frame and band in person before buying.
Phone, account and setup requirements
Ray-Ban’s Display FAQ says setup requires Android 10 or later with location services enabled, or iOS 14.4 or later; a Meta account; the Meta AI mobile app; and wireless internet access. Some captures and voice controls may work without Wi-Fi, but Wi-Fi is required for Meta AI, importing captures and installing updates. Thus, some interactions happen without taking out a phone, but the product is not standalone.
- Charge the glasses, Neural Band and case.
- Install the Meta AI app from the Apple App Store or Google Play and sign in to a Meta account.
- Put the glasses in pairing mode by holding the capture button until the notification LED pulses white, then follow the app’s pairing instructions.
- Turn on the Neural Band by holding its button for about two seconds. If it is not in pairing mode, hold the button for about three seconds until its LED flashes white.
- Complete band pairing in the app, install any required updates, and use the app to fit the band and learn or calibrate its gestures.
App screens and setup labels can change; consult the current FAQ rather than relying on an old screenshot or menu path.
Availability, price and prescription lenses
Meta announced a US starting price of $799, including the glasses and Neural Band, and a US retail launch date of September 30, 2025. The announced initial retailers included Best Buy, LensCrafters, Sunglass Hut and Ray-Ban stores, with Verizon stores expected to follow shortly afterward. As of August 18, 2026, Ray-Ban’s US product page still lists the model from $799. Price, stock and configuration may change.

Meta’s 2025 announcement planned expansion to Canada, France, Italy and the UK in early 2026, but that announcement alone does not establish the full current country list. Check the local Ray-Ban site or retailer for availability where you live. Best Buy says its Meta Lab retail spaces offer opportunities to try Meta AI glasses, including Ray-Ban Display; participating locations and inventory can vary (Best Buy).
EssilorLuxottica’s original announcement said prescription lenses could be ordered for the Display model. That does not establish current prescription eligibility, supported powers, lens options or availability in every country. Confirm those details in the current local ordering flow; do not assume limits or options for standard Ray-Ban Meta glasses apply to Display.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is Ray-Ban Display worth $799?
The clearest reason to pay more is the visual display and the Neural Band. If glanceable directions, captions, message information or AI output in the lens are features you expect to use regularly, this is the Meta glasses model built for that use. The combination may also appeal to frequent walkers and travelers who want quick visual information without repeatedly taking out a phone.
If you mainly want hands-free photos and video, open-ear audio, calls and voice AI, the less expensive Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 is the more direct comparison. A US Headliner listing showed $459, about $340 less than the Display model, and Ray-Ban lists up to eight hours of battery life for Gen 2. It has a 12-megapixel camera and up to 3K video, but no in-lens display or Neural Band. The $459 figure is for that observed US listing, not a universal price; see the Headliner listing and Gen 2 product page.
Best Value
- Get the most out of the moment with iconic Ray-Ban style and technology by Meta. Now featuring frames for a broader range of face shapes.
- Never miss a beat—ask Meta AI to take photos or videos, unearth information, create clever image captions or check out FAQ’s.
- Video call hands-free and share your POV so others can feel like they’re right there with you whether you’re cooking, watching a game or sharing core memories.
- Capture your world with an updated camera and built-in edit features. Take high-quality photos and videos hands free or livestream your point of view.
- Discreet open-ear speakers let you enjoy rich audio quality, music and calls without losing the ambient sounds of your surroundings.
For users who do not need a camera on their face, a smartphone and earbuds remain simpler for navigation, messaging and long listening sessions, and avoid adding another wearable to charge. They do not provide the Display model’s glanceable visual information or first-person camera perspective.
- Consider Display if you specifically want the in-lens display and are comfortable with the price, frame weight, phone dependency and shorter quoted glasses battery life.
- Consider Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 if camera, audio and AI matter more than visual overlays.
- Wait or choose a phone and earbuds if you are unsure the display will earn a place in your routine, or if weight and battery life are deal-breakers.
Privacy and practical limits
The camera and microphones raise the same consent and venue questions as other camera-equipped glasses. The capture LED is intended to indicate camera recording, but it does not remove the need to respect people’s privacy or rules in workplaces and public venues. Review Meta’s current privacy and safety documentation before use; data retention or training policies are not inferred here.
Meta AI functions, supported languages, voice controls and other services can depend on country, language, account, phone operating system, software version and staged rollout. The Neural Band is an additional device to charge and fit, and the display’s alignment is personal. Those dependencies, rather than the headline resolution, determine whether the product is a practical everyday pair of glasses.
