Eight watches from Michael Schumacher’s private collection sold for just under CHF 4 million at Christie’s Geneva Rare Watches auction on 14 May 2024. Christie’s reported the equivalent as US$4.4 million (€4.1 million). That total covers Schumacher’s eight watches—not the entire auction, which brought in CHF 22,821,050.
What Schumacher’s eight watches sold for
The headline figure is Christie’s reported US-dollar equivalent. In Swiss francs, the eight-watch total was just under CHF 4 million. The results below are Christie’s published prices, which differ from hammer prices where buyer’s premium is included.

The figures in the table are Christie’s reported results for the 2024 sale, not current valuations, appraisals or asking prices. The five Ruthenium watches were separate lots, so their combined group result should not be mistaken for one lot price.
Why these watches were tied to Schumacher’s career
Several pieces carried personal details that linked them to specific moments in Schumacher’s racing life. The Vagabondage 1 and Royal Oak chronograph were not simply examples of high-end watchmaking: their custom dials recorded championship milestones and Ferrari associations. Christie’s timed the auction to the 30th anniversary of Schumacher’s first Formula One Drivers’ Championship, won in 1994.

The five-watch Ruthenium group added a different kind of appeal: a coordinated set of F.P. Journe models presented together in a personalized box. The Rolex Daytona offered a recognizable vintage reference, with Christie’s dating production of reference 6262 to 1970–72.
Christie’s Head of Watches for Europe and the Americas, Remi Guillemin, said in the auction preview: “The worlds of motor racing and fine watchmaking often coincide, thanks to their quests for extreme precision and engineering brilliance.”

How the Schumacher result compares with the full auction
The Schumacher watches were part of Christie’s broader Geneva Rare Watches sale, which offered 164 pieces, sold 96% by lot and totaled CHF 22,821,050. The sale’s top lot was a 1948 Patek Philippe reference 1518 at CHF 2,465,000; that watch was not from Schumacher’s collection. Keeping the two totals separate is essential: CHF 22,821,050 was the full auction result, while just under CHF 4 million was the result for Schumacher’s eight watches.

A hammer price is the winning bid before the buyer’s commission; an auction result that includes buyer’s premium is higher. The Associated Press reported more than CHF 3.1 million at hammer for the Schumacher watches. For the Vagabondage 1, AP described a CHF 1.2 million hammer price, or CHF 1.5 million including the buyer’s commission. Christie’s reported CHF 1,497,000 for that watch and just under CHF 4 million for the eight-watch group. These figures describe different price measures, not conflicting valuations.
