The Baroncelli, Multifort Patrimony and Ocean Star are three distinct MIDO collections, not variations of one watch: Baroncelli leans classic and formal, Multifort Patrimony draws on retro styling, and Ocean Star is the brand’s sport and diver line. The older Fratello article compared a Baroncelli, a Multifort Patrimony chronograph, the khaki Ocean Star Tribute and the Ocean Star 200C. Those are the models to consider when reading that original comparison; current catalog examples help explain how the collections have evolved, but their specifications should not be transferred to the older watches.
What the original comparison covers
The Fratello comparison is a release-era look at four MIDO watches across three collections. Its choice is primarily about style and purpose: a dressier Baroncelli, a vintage-inspired Multifort Patrimony chronograph, and two sportier Ocean Star models—the khaki Tribute and the 200C. The article’s description of the 200C as MIDO’s first green-dial watch with a ceramic bezel belongs to that original framing, not to every Ocean Star or a claim about later releases.
Because the article is historical, “new” in its title does not mean these are new releases in 2026. MIDO’s present catalog includes other references and subcollections, and the specifications of a current watch with the same collection name do not necessarily match an older model in the comparison.
How to choose among the three collections
| Collection | Character | What to check on the exact reference |
|---|---|---|
| Baroncelli | Classic, formal styling | Subcollection, case and dial design, size, movement, and whether that reference is designated a chronometer |
| Multifort Patrimony | Retro-inspired styling; the Fratello article discusses a chronograph | Whether the watch is a chronograph or another complication, its movement and dimensions, and strap fit |
| Ocean Star | Sport and diver designs, including vintage-inspired variants | Water-resistance rating, crown instructions, case dimensions, bezel and crystal, movement, and intended use |
Baroncelli: the formal option
MIDO says the Baroncelli collection launched in 1976. It now encompasses multiple subcollections, including Heritage, Chronometer, Tradition and Signature, so “Baroncelli” alone is not a specification. The collection page presents it as a classic, timeless line and includes automatic models. If you want a dress watch, compare the particular reference’s proportions, dial and case finish, movement, and any chronometer designation rather than relying on the collection name alone. See MIDO’s Baroncelli collection.

Multifort Patrimony: retro styling, with reference-specific functions
The Multifort Patrimony featured in the older comparison is a chronograph. A current official example illustrates why the reference number matters: MIDO’s M040.407.16.040.00 is an automatic, 40 mm day-date watch, not the chronograph discussed in the Fratello article. MIDO lists 5 bar water resistance and up to 80 hours of power reserve for this SKU, along with a 19 mm lug width and official strap reference M600017077. These figures apply to this product page’s reference, not to every Patrimony or the historical chronograph.
MIDO describes the current model as using Caliber 80 and says it provides “up to 80 hours of power reserve.” That is manufacturer-published product information, not an independent test. Before buying a Patrimony, confirm the exact reference and whether it has the complication you want; for strap replacement, verify fit and the official part number rather than assuming any 19 mm strap is a MIDO replacement. Ocean Star Tribute and 200C: sport watches with different identities
The Fratello article’s Ocean Star comparison pairs the khaki Tribute’s vintage styling with the 200C’s green dial and ceramic bezel. Both belong to the Ocean Star family, but those details do not establish that the two watches share the same dimensions, movement or water-resistance rating. Check the individual reference and its operating instructions if you plan to use a watch in or around water.
A current, separate example shows the range within the collection: MIDO lists Ocean Star 39 reference M026.907.11.041.01 with a 39 mm case, automatic movement, date, screw-down crown, 200 m water resistance and up to 72 hours of power reserve. This is not identified as either the Tribute or the 200C featured in the older article, and its 200 m rating must not be applied to those models. View MIDO’s Ocean Star 39 product page.

What has changed since the original lineup
On 18 July 2025, Swatch Group announced the Ocean Star Worldtimer, describing it as inspired by the 1970s and rated for water resistance up to 200 metres. It is a later collection development, not another name for the Tribute or 200C in the Fratello comparison. Read the Swatch Group announcement.

What to verify before choosing a reference
- Match the exact model: use the reference number, not only the collection name, to confirm complications and specifications.
- Compare for your use: choose Baroncelli for a more formal look, Patrimony for retro styling and the specific complication you want, or Ocean Star for a sport-oriented design. These are design distinctions, not substitutes for checking the watch’s features.
- Check water resistance and crown guidance: ratings vary among references; do not infer a rating from the Ocean Star name or another model in the line.
- Confirm current local listing details: MIDO’s prices, stock and catalog listings can vary by market and change over time. The published specifications cited here are manufacturer information, not independent test results.
