The Minase Divido Shibo-Urushi pairs a one-by-one handmade lacquer dial with a distinctly open, layered steel case. Its appeal is primarily visual and tactile in concept: the dial’s changing pattern sits within a case-in-case structure that leaves space around it. Minase lists an automatic ETA-based movement and 5 ATM water resistance for the specified Sky of Shells bracelet reference, but neither those specifications nor a published hands-on review establishes how the watch performs for an individual wearer over time.
What makes the Shibo-Urushi dial different?
Shibo-Urushi is the Divido’s central point of distinction. Minase says the lacquer pattern varies from watch to watch because each dial is handmade: “The pattern of Shibo-Urushi is slightly different because it is hand-made one by one.” The brand describes mixing urushi lacquer with paint and egg whites to make it viscous enough for an artist to manipulate into a pattern; after the design dries, it receives a transparent urushi layer. That is Minase’s account of its process, not an independently documented materials analysis. Minase’s Sky of Shells product page and its international webshop description provide the maker’s details.
The collection page names four executions: Golden Flux, Metallic Haze, Scarlet Illusion, and Sky of Shells. Those names identify distinct visual choices, not a ranking by legibility or durability; the available information does not establish either. See Minase’s Shibo-Urushi collection listing for the variants.
How does the layered case frame the dial?
Minase describes the dial as held at its corners within a “case in case” arrangement, creating a floating appearance and allowing light around it. The maker says the Divido design takes inspiration from Japanese three-dimensional puzzles. Its steel components are hand-polished using Sallaz/Sarazu terminology on the webshop page. The concept is not simply a decorative dial placed in a conventional solid surround: the contrast between the dial’s irregular handmade pattern and the case’s crisp, layered geometry is the design’s defining relationship. Minase’s webshop description explains the construction; Time+Tide’s September 6, 2022 review offers a dated reviewer’s visual account.

What are the listed specifications?
Specifications should be tied to a reference and source. The current official Sky of Shells bracelet listing is reference VM14-M01KA4-SSB. Minase’s product page gives the following figures for that configuration:
| Specification | Minase listing for VM14-M01KA4-SSB |
|---|---|
| Movement | Automatic KT7002, based on the ETA 2892 |
| Power reserve | 50 hours, as listed by Minase |
| Water resistance | 5 ATM (50 m), manufacturer rating |
| Crystal | Sapphire |
| Case dimensions | W40.6 × H40.6 × T11 mm, including glass |
| Weight | Approximately 134 g |
| Bracelet | Stainless steel with MORE structure |
Minase’s international webshop overview gives a rounded 40.5 mm case, 11.0 mm thickness and 134 g, and also states a 50-hour reserve. The figures are not necessarily contradictory: one page gives a reference-specific width and height to a tenth of a millimetre, while the overview rounds the case diameter. The official sources do not establish a lug-to-lug measurement for this reference.

There is a difference in the published power-reserve figures. Minase currently lists 50 hours for the specified bracelet reference; Fergus Nash’s Time+Tide review, published September 6, 2022, reported 42 hours for the watch reviewed. The review also gives 40.6 mm diameter, 48.7 mm lug-to-lug, 11 mm thickness and 50 m water resistance. Treat those measurements and movement figure as applying to the reviewed watch, not as a substitute for checking the exact current reference. See the official reference listing and the dated review.
How do the bracelet and rubber versions differ?
Minase offers steel-bracelet and rubber-strap configurations. The official Sky of Shells bracelet specification above is not automatically transferable to every strap or dial reference; check the selected product page for its dimensions, weight and movement details. The available sources do not provide a controlled comparison of how the bracelet and rubber versions feel on wrist, so strap preference is best treated as a fit and style decision rather than a proven comfort advantage.

What does 5 ATM mean for everyday use?
For the specified bracelet reference, Minase lists 5 ATM (50 m). That is the manufacturer’s water-resistance rating, not an independent test result or a recommendation to swim or dive with the watch. The information available here does not establish how the rating should be interpreted for a particular activity or how the watch’s resistance changes with age; consult Minase for use and servicing guidance before exposing it to water.
Can you judge the dial in person from reviews or owner reports?
A photograph can show a particular dial’s colors and pattern, but it cannot establish how the finish changes under different lighting or how another individually made dial will look. Time+Tide’s 2022 article is a watch-media review, not evidence of the present writer’s ownership or long-term wear. A July 2026 owner-community discussion asks how the dial reads in person versus photos and how the case-in-case construction holds up to daily wear, while also noting that owner feedback is scarce. Those questions remain open rather than answered by representative owner data or durability testing.

What did the watch cost, and what should buyers check?
Time+Tide reported CHF 6,700 for the rubber version and CHF 7,900 for the steel version in its September 2022 review. Those are historical prices, not current quotes. Minase’s retrieved international checkout text showed a deposit/payment flow rather than an unambiguous full price, so current pricing, stock, delivery terms and regional availability need confirmation on the official product page or at checkout. Confirm the exact reference and strap configuration before relying on any specifications or purchase terms.
