The Mitch Mason Chronicle is a 36.5 mm vintage-inspired field watch from Singapore-based microbrand Mitch Mason, and it is the brand’s first release. Based on the retail specification list in 12&60’s review, it pairs a 316L stainless steel case with a metallic blue sandwich dial, an orange seconds hand, a Miyota 9039 movement and 200 m of water resistance. Its appeal rests on the case shape and dial treatment, while its wearability depends on the 20 mm lug width and a strap that the reviewer found hard to get exactly right.
Retail specifications at a glance
The figures below come from the “Retail Specs” section of 12&60’s review. The review page does not show a publication date in the text I could access, so treat these as the specifications the reviewer listed rather than a dated, verified catalogue entry. Confirm them against the brand’s current product page before buying.

Prototype and retail model are not the same watch
The review tested a prototype, and its specifications differ from the retail list in two material ways. Readers comparing photos, forum reports or older posts should check which version they are looking at.
| Item | Prototype tested in the review | Retail list in the review |
|---|---|---|
| Movement | Sellita SW-200-1 | Miyota 9039 |
| Water resistance | 100 m | 200 m |
| Crown action | Described as rough or gritty | Not stated; the reviewer said the crown and movement would change before release |
The crown comment is a single prototype observation, not evidence about how production units feel. The reviewer also noted that the movement choice was discussed with the brand, but that account is a paraphrase rather than a verified direct quotation from a company representative.

Design and dial
12&60 describes the Chronicle as vintage-inspired and highlights its unconventional case design, metallic blue sandwich dial, orange seconds hand and vintage-style luminous treatment. Those descriptions are the reviewer’s aesthetic judgement. Whether the case shape suits you depends on how you feel about a 12 mm thickness and a 43.5 mm lug-to-lug on a 36.5 mm case, which is a combination you should judge in person or through photos taken on a wrist of your own size.
The sandwich dial is a layered construction in which the blue finish sits over a separate base. The reviewer’s description points to a metallic finish that shifts with light; photographs rarely capture that behaviour well, so view the dial under daylight and indoor light before deciding.

Fit on the wrist
The reviewer has a six-inch wrist. The watch head sat comfortably on it, but the supplied strap felt tight at one adjustment hole and slightly loose at the next. That is one wearer’s experience, and the gap between two holes is the kind of thing a different wrist may not notice. Buyers with wrists near the extremes of the size range should expect to fine-tune the fit.
Strap compatibility and a replacement strap
The review lists a 20 mm lug width, which is the number to use when shopping for a replacement strap. Confirm three things before buying:

- "The Classic" Masonic watch has a Japan quartz movement with a black background and Masonic symbols.
- The 42mm round polished chrome case has a polished stainless steel mesh style band with a sliding adjustable buckle.
- The watch is packaged in a handsome gift box.
- The strap’s end-piece width matches 20 mm at the spring-bar seats, not just the nominal width on the packaging.
- The strap has spring-bar length that seats fully without leaving gaps against the lugs.
- The strap’s curvature suits a 36.5 mm case; a stiff, flat strap can lift the case away from the wrist.
The review notes quick-release spring bars, which makes strap changes possible without a spring-bar tool. Check that the bars can be removed with the pin-release mechanism before buying tools you may not need.

How to judge it against other field watches
The review does not identify a directly comparable competing model, so the most useful way to evaluate the Chronicle is against your own criteria. Compare any alternative on the same five points:
- Dimensions and wrist fit: case diameter, lug-to-lug length and thickness against your wrist size.
- Movement and layout: the movement family and whether the watch has a date. The Chronicle’s date layout is not stated in the review’s specifications.
- Water resistance: the 200 m figure applies to the retail model, not the 100 m prototype.
- Strap compatibility: the 20 mm lug width and spring-bar type.
- Price and availability: verified on the seller’s current page, not on a review’s historical figure.
Who the Chronicle suits
- Buyers who want a vintage-styled field watch with a distinctive case and a blue dial.
- Wearers with a wrist that suits a 36.5 mm case and a 20 mm strap width, who are comfortable adjusting the strap.
- Buyers who want the option to change straps easily, since spring bars are quick-release.
It is less obviously suited to buyers who need a confirmed current price, a date complication, or a watch whose finishing has been checked on a production unit rather than a prototype.
Be sure to read the rest of watchranker.com’s reviews to compare similar field watches with a similar wrist fit and water-resistance rating.
Overall, the Chronicle reads as a design-led debut watch: its strengths are the case and dial, and its open questions are the production movement’s finish and current availability.
