The Montblanc TimeWalker Manufacture Chronograph MB118488 is a 43 mm stainless-steel sports chronograph with a panda-style dial, fixed black ceramic tachymeter bezel and in-house MB 25.10 movement. Its appeal is a blend of motorsport-inspired styling and traditional chronograph architecture; its main practical caveat is that the published specifications do not establish current pricing, water resistance, accuracy or availability for this exact reference.
Which TimeWalker Manufacture Chronograph is this?
This review concerns reference MB118488, the panda-dial model in Montblanc’s indexed product listing. It is distinct from the MB124073 limited edition of 1,500 pieces and from the separate TimeWalker Automatic Chronograph MB116097, which uses calibre MB 25.07 rather than MB 25.10. A similar name is not enough to establish that case, dial, movement or included accessories are identical.
The available evidence supports a review of published specifications and the impressions reported by watch publications, rather than a hands-on assessment. The design and movement details below are manufacturer specifications or attributed reporting, not claims of personal testing.
Design and wearing configuration
Montblanc describes MB118488 as a 43 mm stainless-steel watch with a contrasting panda-style dial and a fixed ceramic tachymeter bezel. The black bezel and racing-inspired case details frame a high-contrast chronograph layout. Time+Tide describes the dial as cream-toned and matte, with the Montblanc star placed in the small-seconds register. Fratello reports white dial surfaces, black subdials, red accents and Super-LumiNova on the dial and hands.

Fratello gives the case thickness as 15.2 mm and reports three chronograph registers with a date aperture at 4:30. These are publication-reported dimensions and layout details; check the specific watch and its documentation when buying, especially if fit under a cuff matters.
Reported configurations include a perforated brown Sfumato calfskin strap, a steel bracelet and, in Fratello’s 2018 first look, a Bund strap option. That does not mean every configuration was offered in every market or that a particular strap or bracelet accompanies a present-day listing. Confirm the reference, included parts and condition with the seller.

What is inside: calibre MB 25.10
MB118488 is powered by Montblanc calibre MB 25.10, a mechanical chronograph movement. Montblanc’s service guide specifies a traditional column wheel, horizontal clutch-wheel and stop-seconds mechanism. The column wheel is the control component for the chronograph’s start, stop and reset functions; the horizontal clutch connects the chronograph mechanism to the running movement when timing begins. These describe the architecture, not a guarantee of superior accuracy or easier servicing.
| Published specification | Figure | Source and qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Components | 232 | Montblanc service guide, 2025; manufacturer-published figure |
| Frequency | 28,000 vibrations per hour (4 Hz) | Montblanc service guide, 2025; manufacturer-published figure |
| Power reserve | About 46 hours | Montblanc service guide, 2025; manufacturer-published figure |
| Counter arrangement | “3-6-9” or “Tri-Compax” | Montblanc service guide; describes the counter arrangement |
The 232-component count, 4 Hz rate and approximately 46-hour reserve are manufacturer specifications, not independently measured results. The reserve is a useful planning figure: after being set aside for longer than that, the watch may need winding and resetting, depending on its state when removed.

How the published reviews frame the watch
Time+Tide’s 2019 review presents the watch as a 43 mm sports chronograph with a fixed ceramic tachymeter bezel and identifies both the Sfumato strap and steel-bracelet configurations. Fratello’s January 2018 first look emphasizes the contrast of the dial, black subdials and red details, and records the 15.2 mm thickness. Together, those accounts support the picture of a substantial, visually assertive chronograph rather than a discreet dress watch. That is an inference from the stated dimensions and styling, not a wrist-fit test.
The tachymeter scale is intended to calculate average speed over a measured distance when used with the chronograph. It is a functional part of the motorsport theme, though its usefulness depends on the wearer having a suitable measured interval and being able to read the scale.

What to verify before buying MB118488
Because several TimeWalker chronographs and configurations exist, verify the watch itself rather than relying on a broad model name in an advert. For this reference, ask for clear photographs and documentation showing the reference, movement or service history where available, and the actual strap or bracelet included. Also confirm condition, authenticity documentation, warranty and return terms with the seller.

- Confirm whether the sale includes the Sfumato strap, steel bracelet or another configuration, and whether any additional strap is included.
- Request service records and clarify what warranty applies to that specific sale and region.
- Ask the seller to confirm water-resistance status for the exact watch. The sources cited here do not establish a water-resistance rating for MB118488.
- Assess current asking price against the individual watch’s condition, accessories, provenance and service history; historical launch prices are not a current valuation.
Verdict
On published specifications, MB118488 is a well-defined proposition for someone who wants a large, motorsport-styled chronograph and values the MB 25.10’s column-wheel and horizontal-clutch construction. Its defining trade-offs are equally clear: the 43 mm case and reported 15.2 mm thickness make it a substantial choice, and the high-contrast panda design is deliberately prominent. The available evidence establishes its technical specification and historical configurations, but not current value, long-term reliability or real-world timekeeping performance.
