The first 2023 Mission to the Moon version stood out for its gold-coated chronograph seconds hand. Later Mission to Earthphase editions put Moonshine Gold on the moon-phase indicator and pair it with seasonal or monthly themes. Swatch’s official collection page documents themed variants.
For example, Swatch Group described the Cold Moon Earthphase as a Bioceramic watch with an asymmetrical case and tachymeter scale. Its seasonal design included Snoopy illustrations, a snowflake on the moon-phase indicator and a white VELCRO rubber strap. Those details belong to that edition, not every Moonshine Gold model. A small change—and a release story that divides opinion
One criticism is that the original gold seconds hand changes relatively little about the familiar MoonSwatch. Fratello’s March 2023 coverage described the response as polarized: some readers liked the appearance, while others objected to the way the watch was presented.
The original release tied production of the coated seconds hand to a full moon. In an August 2025 interview with EL PAÍS Semanal, Swatch CEO Alain Villard described the collection as limited because the watches were produced during one full-moon night on a particular date.
