Motorola Moto Buds+ bring Bose-tuned audio and ANC to the $129 price class

The Moto Buds+ offer Bose-assisted tuning, ANC, wireless charging and up to eight hours of rated battery life—but they are Motorola earbuds, not Bose earbuds, and Android users get the fullest feature set.

Motorola’s 2024 Moto Buds+ launched in the U.S. at $129.99, offering “Sound by Bose,” active noise cancellation, wireless charging and up to eight hours of earbud battery life. The headline is broadly accurate—but these are Motorola earbuds with Bose-assisted tuning and ANC expertise, not Bose-branded earbuds. The $129.99 figure is the historical launch price, not a verified current price.

What you get for $129.99

The Moto Buds+ are true-wireless in-ear earbuds, identified as model XT2441-1 in Motorola’s guide. They launched in the U.S. on April 16, 2024, in Forest Grey, with a $129.99 launch price.

Key features include:

  • Active noise cancellation and Transparency mode
  • Up to eight hours of playback per earbud charge
  • Up to 38 hours including the charging case
  • Qi-certified wireless charging and USB-C charging
  • Dolby spatial audio and head-tracking support, where the connected device allows it
  • Three microphones in each earbud for noise suppression and echo cancellation
  • Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity

That is an unusually full feature set for the launch price. However, the value depends heavily on your phone, your expectations for Bose branding and whether you need a formal water-resistance rating.

What “Sound by Bose” actually means

“Bose audio” is shorthand that needs qualification. Motorola describes the earbuds as Sound by Bose, with Bose contributing audio tuning and active-noise-cancellation expertise. The hardware, companion app, support and product identity remain Motorola’s.

  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

In practical terms, you should not assume that the Moto Buds+ sound identical to Bose’s own QuietComfort earbuds, deliver the same ANC performance or work with Bose’s software and support ecosystem. Reviews generally found the sound good for the money, though opinions varied: TechRadar called the overall presentation satisfying and good value, while Stuff considered sound quality a relative weakness. Consumer Reports placed sound quality in the “very good” range but noted noticeable sonic quirks.

The fairest description is Motorola earbuds with Bose-assisted tuning and ANC technology—not “Bose earbuds for $129.”

Is the eight-hour battery claim realistic?

Motorola’s rating is up to eight hours per charge, with up to 38 hours including the case. The second figure includes case recharges; it does not mean the earbuds themselves run for 38 hours.

Independent results varied. TechRadar measured roughly six hours on one earbud and slightly more than seven hours on the other with ANC disabled. Notebookcheck recorded about 8.3 hours in a controlled test at 65 dB/A using AAC. Those results are not contradictory: volume, codec, ANC, spatial audio, head tracking, fit and firmware all affect endurance.

  • 90W Pass-Through Charging: Achieve optimal charging with 90W pass-through power to your laptop, supported by a total input of 100W, with the hub reserving 10W for operational efficiency. (Note: Wall charger not included.)

  • 4K HDMI Display: Enhance your visual experience with a hub capable of delivering 4K resolution at 30Hz in both mirror and extend modes. Please note that this hub is compatible with MacBook (macOS 12 and newer), Windows 10 and 11, ChromeOS, and laptops equipped with DP Alt Mode and Power Delivery. Note: This device is not compatible with Linux.
  • What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.

Expect the eight-hour figure to represent favorable conditions rather than a guarantee for ANC-enabled everyday use. Motorola also advises returning the earbuds to their case when they are not being used because their sensors can remain active and drain the battery.

ANC and sound quality

The Moto Buds+ include ANC, Transparency mode and three microphones per earbud. SoundGuys highlighted noise suppression, echo removal and wind-noise reduction, while TechRadar found the ANC particularly useful on flights, trains and city walks.

That makes them a sensible fit for commuting, travel, office work and podcasts. Still, “Bose” should not be treated as an objective promise of Bose QuietComfort-level performance. The reviews support effective ANC for this price, not guaranteed parity with Bose’s premium range.

Compatibility: Android gets the complete experience

Basic Bluetooth audio pairing works with Android, iPhone, Windows laptops, tablets and other compatible devices. The important limitation is the companion software: Motorola’s Moto Buds app is for Android devices only, according to Motorola’s user guide.

On Android, the app provides battery information, firmware updates, equalizer and sound settings, noise-control modes, gesture customization and Dual connection settings. iPhone owners can use the earbuds for ordinary Bluetooth playback, but may lose access to those app-based controls and updates.

Dolby spatial audio and head tracking also depend on device support. The Moto Buds+ support head tracking, but not every paired phone supports spatial audio or head tracking; TechRadar reported that some features require a compatible Motorola smartphone.

What about multipoint?

Motorola’s guide describes Dual connection for the Moto Buds+ through the Android Moto Buds app, and the feature is off by default. The same guide separates this from its “Audio switch and Multipoint” section, which it associates with the non-Plus moto buds bass model.

For that reason, do not buy the Moto Buds+ assuming unrestricted, universal multipoint between every phone and laptop. Check the exact behavior you need before purchasing.

  • Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft

Wireless charging is a major advantage

The case charges through USB-C and supports Qi-certified wireless charging. That is a strong feature at this price and lets you drop the case onto an existing Qi pad rather than plug it in every time.

Motorola lists each earbud at about 4.2 grams and the case at about 43 grams. Touch controls handle playback, calls, track changes, voice assistance and noise-control modes:

  • Double-tap either earbud: play or pause, or answer or end a call
  • Triple-tap the right earbud: next track
  • Triple-tap the left earbud: previous track
  • Hold the left earbud for three seconds: voice assistant
  • Hold the right earbud for three seconds: switch noise-control modes
  • Hold either earbud for three seconds during an incoming call: reject the call

The Android app can customize the controls. TechRadar found them usable but not especially reliable, so buyers who dislike touch controls should treat that as a real drawback.

Are they suitable for workouts?

Use caution. TechRadar reported that Motorola labels the earbuds “water repellent,” rather than giving them a conventional IP rating. That is less specific than an IPX4 or IP55 certification.

They may be fine for ordinary daily use, but the available evidence does not support calling them waterproof or sweatproof. Runners and outdoor users who regularly face heavy rain or intense workouts should favor earbuds with a clearly stated water-resistance rating.

Who should buy the Moto Buds+?

  • Android users: You get the full Moto Buds app, firmware controls and customization.
  • Motorola phone owners: You are more likely to receive the broadest spatial-audio and head-tracking compatibility.
  • Travelers and commuters: ANC, Transparency mode and wireless charging make the feature set practical.
  • iPhone owners: Bluetooth playback works, but the Android-only app limits customization and advanced controls.
  • Runners and outdoor users: Be cautious because the available documentation says “water repellent” rather than establishing a conventional IP rating.
  • Buyers who need dependable multipoint: Confirm the Dual connection behavior first; do not assume universal multipoint.

Troubleshooting common problems

Battery life seems too short

  1. Fully charge both earbuds and the case.
  2. Check whether ANC, spatial audio, head tracking or high volume is active.
  3. Install firmware updates through Moto Buds > More > Firmware update on Android.
  4. Store the earbuds in the case between uses.
  5. Test each earbud separately and note the volume, codec and noise-control settings.

If runtime remains dramatically below expectations, document the conditions and use the retailer’s return process or Motorola’s warranty support.

Advanced features are missing

Check whether you are using an iPhone, an unsupported Android phone, an outdated firmware version or basic Bluetooth pairing without the Moto Buds app. Spatial audio and head tracking also require compatible phone and content support.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Pairing fails

  1. Turn on Bluetooth.
  2. Place the earbuds in the open case.
  3. Hold the case function button for two seconds until the LED flashes blue.
  4. Select moto buds+ in the Bluetooth list.
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions.

If pairing mode does not start, charge the case sufficiently and try again. Motorola’s full guide is available here.

Verdict

The Moto Buds+ are a compelling feature-rich option around their $129.99 launch price. They offer effective ANC, useful transparency mode, wireless charging and Bose-assisted tuning without Bose’s premium branding and ecosystem.

They are not a guaranteed Bose replacement, and the eight-hour battery claim is an “up to” figure that can fall with ANC and other processing enabled. Before buying, verify the actual current price, seller, return policy and regional model. At a genuine discount below $129.99, they become easier to recommend; at the original price, they are competitive rather than an automatic bargain.
