It speculated about a Dark Side of the Moon refresh, a platinum Moonwatch and a smaller, more attainable Professional-style Speedmaster. Two useful release comparisons are already clear: Omega’s Super Racing had been announced the week before Broer’s article, and Omega’s official product page records a 2023 update to the Apollo 8 Dark Side of the Moon.
What Broer predicted—and what he hoped to see
Broer’s piece combined expectations with personal preferences. Its ideas are best read as questions about the direction of the collection, not as claims of advance knowledge about Omega’s plans.
A Dark Side of the Moon refresh
With the collection approaching its tenth anniversary, Broer anticipated an update and wondered whether Omega might use a hand-wound movement or its newer Spirate technology. He also hoped Omega would keep the refresh focused on one model and retain Apollo 8. These details were speculation, not confirmed product plans. Read Broer’s original article.
A platinum Moonwatch
He floated the possibility of a platinum Moonwatch using calibre 3861, perhaps with a platinum bracelet or a skeletonized treatment. This was a conjecture about a possible material and design direction; the article did not report an Omega announcement.

A smaller watch with Professional styling
Broer imagined a smaller Speedmaster with the familiar visual character of the Professional. He pointed to demand he had encountered for smaller watches and cited the former Speedmaster Reduced as a reference point. That is the author’s account of collector interest, not a quantified measure of buyer preferences.
More accessible enthusiast models
Broer’s broader preference was for releases collectors could afford more readily, rather than an emphasis on expensive precious-metal or complicated watches. This is his editorial view of what would serve enthusiasts; it should not be read as a consensus among Speedmaster buyers.

Limited editions and special models
The article says Omega had stopped introducing limited-edition Speedmasters after 2019, while special models might remain in the catalog for an unknown period. That is Broer’s description in the 2023 article; the sources cited here do not establish a comprehensive Omega policy.
What Omega had already announced: Speedmaster Super Racing
The Speedmaster Super Racing was announced by Swatch Group on January 26, 2023—before Broer’s article appeared. So it was not a prediction that later came true. Swatch Group described it as the first timepiece to include Omega’s fine-tune Spirate system and stated a certified precision target of 0/+2 seconds per day. That figure is a manufacturer-stated product specification, not an independently presented comparison of real-world performance. The announcement describes a stainless-steel watch supplied with a recycled-nylon NATO strap and a strap-changing tool. See Swatch Group’s announcement.

What the Apollo 8 update confirms—and what it does not
Omega’s regional product page records a 2023 update to the Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon Apollo 8, reference 310.92.44.50.01.001. It lists a 44.25 mm black ceramic case, a rubber strap and calibre 3869. See Omega’s product page.
This release gives Broer’s broad expectation of a Dark Side of the Moon update a concrete point of comparison. It does not show that Omega adopted his ideas about a hand-wound movement or Spirate for the Apollo 8, nor does it establish his hoped-for one-model-only refresh. The page documents the Apollo 8 update, not the full scope of Omega’s 2023 Speedmaster releases.

How to judge the predictions against the releases
Keep confirmed product details separate from the article’s wishes. These comparisons show where the sources provide a specific match and where they do not:
| Question | Broer’s 2023 article | Confirmed release detail |
|---|---|---|
| Movement and regulating technology | Wondered whether a Dark Side of the Moon update might use a hand-wound movement or Spirate. | The Super Racing announcement identifies Spirate and states a certified precision target of 0/+2 seconds per day. Omega’s Apollo 8 page lists calibre 3869. |
| Materials and dimensions | Speculated about a platinum Moonwatch and hoped for a smaller Professional-style Speedmaster. | The Super Racing announcement describes stainless steel. Omega lists the Apollo 8 with a 44.25 mm black ceramic case. |
| Strap or bracelet | Raised a possible platinum bracelet for the imagined platinum Moonwatch. | Swatch Group describes the Super Racing with a recycled-nylon NATO strap and strap-changing tool; Omega lists a rubber strap for the Apollo 8. |
| Audience and accessibility | Favored smaller, more attainable enthusiast-oriented models. | The cited product announcements establish specifications, but do not establish a consistent price comparison or measure affordability. |
What this retrospective can—and cannot—say
The clearest technical story in the sources is Spirate’s appearance in the Super Racing, announced before Broer published his article. The Apollo 8 page documents a 2023 Dark Side of the Moon update, but that overlap supports only the broad idea of a collection update—not Broer’s specific movement or design conjectures. His calls for smaller styling and more accessible enthusiast models remain personal priorities in this article, rather than proven market trends or confirmed Omega plans.
