What is the new Hermès Arceau watch?
The Arceau Samarcande is one of Hermès’ 2026 watch releases, presented by the House as a new expression of the Arceau line. The model pairs a 38 mm gold case with a minute repeater and a dial whose openwork horse-head motif makes the movement part of the design.
The name and imagery draw on the horse, a recurring part of Hermès’ identity. The Arceau line’s original design by Henri d’Origny dates to 1978 and is distinguished by a round case and asymmetrical, stirrup-inspired lugs. What makes the Arceau Samarcande an art watch?

Hermès credits the dial to Saint-Louis crystal craftsmanship. It is openworked in the shape of a horse’s head, so the dial is not simply a surface carrying an image: its cutout shapes the view through to the movement beneath. The motif connects the watch’s visual treatment to the equestrian theme without obscuring the mechanism that powers it.

The movement as part of the composition
The opening reveals parts of the H1927, a skeletonised self-winding mechanical movement designed and produced exclusively for Hermès. The sapphire crystal caseback offers another view, including the movement, repeater hammers and a micro-rotor decorated with the Duc attelé motif. Hermès says the minute-repeater mechanism activates the gong.
Hermès places the Samarcande within a broader 2026 presentation of skeletonisation, writing that the technique “becomes a language in its own right” across several watches. That framing is the House’s description of its design approach, not a claim that the Samarcande is the only watch in the release to use skeletonisation.

How does the minute repeater work?
A minute repeater is a mechanical complication that sounds the time on demand using a gong. On the Samarcande, Hermès says the H1927 movement activates that gong. The available release information does not specify the exact sounding sequence or the mechanism’s operating instructions, so those details should not be inferred from the product description alone.
What specifications and versions are reported?
Hermès’ release page describes 38 mm white- or rose-gold cases and straps in shades chosen to match the watches. webChronos reports further technical specifications for the Arceau Minute Repeater Samarkand: 40 jewels, a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour, approximately 48 hours of power reserve and 3 ATM water resistance. These are publication-reported figures, rather than specifications confirmed here against a current regional Hermès product listing.

How much does the Hermès Arceau Samarcande cost?
Hermès’ Denmark release page displays DKK 2,093,000 for the large 38 mm model. That is a price shown on a localized Danish page; it is not a universal price, and it does not establish current stock. webChronos reports Japan-market estimates that vary by reference, so any buyer should confirm the current local price and availability with Hermès in their market.

How does it differ from Hermès’ 2025 Arceau art watch?
The Arceau Samarcande should not be confused with the Arceau Rocabar de rire, a separate watch described in Hermès’ 2025 Universal Registration Document, published in 2026. That earlier model used a métiers d’art dial inspired by the Rocabar silk carré, including horsehair marquetry. The Samarcande’s defining dial construction is instead openworked Saint-Louis crystal; the horsehair technique belongs to the Rocabar de rire, not this 2026 release.
